About
A Slice of Hanoi in Windward Oahu
Tucked away in the heart of Kaneohe, Bun Mi brings the bustling energy of Vietnamese street markets to the Windward side. This isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; it’s where you go when you crave the sharp, bright snap of pickled daikon and the savory depth of house-made pâté. The air is consistently thick with the scent of toasted baguettes and star anise, a siren song for locals looking for a quick, substantial lunch.
The Art of the Banh Mi
The menu centers on their signature banh mi, which manages to strike the elusive balance between a crackling, airy crust and a soft, pillowy interior. They don't skimp on the house-made mayo or the heat of fresh jalapeños. Whether you opt for the classic cold cut medley or the lemongrass-marinated grilled pork, the assembly is precise, ensuring every bite contains the essential crunch of cilantro and cucumber.
Local Vibe and Practical Notes
Expect a casual, no-frills setting that feels like a true neighborhood kitchen. It is the ideal spot for a post-hike recharge or a grab-and-go meal before heading to the beach. Be mindful that parking in this busy strip of Kaneohe can get tight during peak hours, and the space fills up quickly with the local lunch crowd. If you find yourself lingering, the hum of the kitchen and the steady stream of regulars provide a rhythmic soundtrack that underscores the authentic, unpretentious atmosphere of the shop. Grab a cold Vietnamese coffee to cut through the humidity, find a seat, and enjoy a meal that prioritizes bold, honest flavors over unnecessary garnish.

Been searching for good food. FOUND IT! INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY and patient with me as I ordered...there's so much to choose from. The Pork Bao Buns are something to be craving and day dreaming about. Generous portions of fresh ingredients. I ordered 2 Bahn mi, lemon grass & spring roll vermicelli noodle plate, 2 - 3pc roast pork bao bun and a side of pho dip. It was ALL good! Highly recommend.

Went to Bun Mi yesterday for lunch. There were three of us and the 3 of us almost couldn't fit inside the place is so small. So ambiance wise, the front of the restaurant is about the size of a large walk in closet. There is a bench table on the wall that seats 4 with small metal elementary school stools, and maybe 2 other tables also with elementary school metal stools. So yeah, the restaurant is very tiny. However, the food was pretty good. The spring rolls with lettuce wrap comes with some noodles, thin sliced carrots, crisp whole romaine lettuce leaves and cucumber slices. Unfortunately there was no mint and mint ALWAYS makes Vietnamese food taste fresher. I was glad to see they included fish sauce with it and it was very flavorful. We also got noodles with lemongrass chicken and spring rolls and it was filling with a large serving size with plenty of chicken and noodles. It all tasted great. Service wise, it was odd that our order was delivered in clam shells where as the next customer that arrived after us got served on plates. Small disappointment that they don't serve summer rolls.

Had a chance to visit here first time recently and ordered a lemongrass pork banh mi even though I normally go for a bahn me with pâté. I was told that it was going to take up to 10 minutes, so waited outside. When it was ready, a guy brought it out for me, which was nice of him. The size was big and it was so good. Sweetness of the seasonings, crunchy veggies with decent amount of cilantro and lots of pork. Even though it was bigger than I expected, I couldn't stop and ate it all because it was so good. Very satisfied.
