An Unpretentious Slice of Kona Life

Perched along the volcanic coastline of Kailua-Kona, Walua Social Club functions less like a formal eatery and more like the living room of the Big Island. The atmosphere leans heavily into the relaxed, barefoot-luxury aesthetic synonymous with Hawaii’s west coast. You won’t find white tablecloths here; instead, expect salt-kissed air, the distant rhythmic crashing of Pacific waves, and an open-air layout that invites the trade winds in.

Island Flavors and Liquid Courage

The menu focuses on local convenience and high-proof refreshment. It is the kind of spot where you order a round of ice-cold local brews or a classic Kona-inspired cocktail after a long day of snorkeling. The kitchen excels at straightforward pub fare that pairs perfectly with a view of the sunset bleeding into the horizon. If you are looking for complex, avant-garde gastronomy, look elsewhere; if you want a burger or a plate of fresh pupus while watching the sky turn orange, this is your harbor.

The Local Reality

Be aware that the social nature of the club means noise levels can spike quickly as the sun dips. On busy nights, the acoustics of the space make for a lively, albeit loud, conversation environment. Parking in this part of town requires a bit of patience, so factor in a few extra minutes to navigate the area before settling in for the evening. It is a quintessential spot for travelers who want to shed their tourist persona and blend into the rhythm of the island, rubbing shoulders with locals who treat this spot as their unofficial community clubhouse.

Walua Social Club was an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazing, and the cocktails were some of the best I’ve had on the island. A special shoutout to Ryan, the mixologist, who absolutely nailed a mezcal cocktail that was perfectly balanced and packed with flavor. If you’re a mezcal fan, you’re in for a treat. Our server, Marissa, was outstanding. She never let our water glasses run empty, was attentive throughout the entire meal, and gave excellent recommendations that made the experience even better. Overall, I’d give Walua Social Club a 9.5/10. The only reason it’s not a perfect score is that I wish they opened a little earlier! Other than that, everything was top-notch. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re looking for great food, craft cocktails, and exceptional service in Kona. 🌺🍹

Walua Social is the place to dine if you want excellent service, food, and pricing. The suggestions from the staff, to the plating, and the flavor of the dishes was outstanding. Maika, our waiter, made great suggestions along with attentive service. If you don't want the "samo - samo" foods in Kona then go here! We highly recommend this restaurant! Do try to sit at the upstairs to view the ocean. Thank you Walua Social for a memorable evening! Mahalo!

Holy shnikeys this place is amazing. I was lucky enough to have an amazing server and aloha on the way in. I sat downstairs and the ambiance was really chill. I indulged in the tako special they had and had to close my eyes because it was so good. I then had the pappardelle with burrata and had to hold my cheeks because the flavor was so magnificent. Sierra really knew the menu and helped me make decisions, which, what a trooper! I finished with the tiramisu which I nearly cried over. All of this was paired with Mirabeau rosé which was so delicious. I plan to end my trip tomorrow by coming back for the balcony, the Kona Kanpachi options, and hopefully the tako special will still be on order. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

What a wonderful find! We went 3 times in 5 days it was that good! First: Just a block of of All'i Drive with a small but sufficient parking lot. Made a reservation twice but was able to get dinner at the bar without a reservation. The menu is not extensive but has a very nice variety. The food was amazing! Tried 3 of the pasta dishes (Agnoletti with added burrata cheese to live for!) All were excellent- Had the salad with proscuitto & Arugula, the appetizer ribs, & the Kona Kanpachi collars, Beef Carpaccio and the Kanpachi crudo- all excellent Oysters were so fresh & the giardiniera added a light fresh taste that enhanced the oysters. Service was top notch! Friendly & attentive. Our servers (Chelsea, Astrid, Daniella & Aiden) were all knowledgable about the menu & cocktails (also excellent) . as far as price everything in Hawaii is expensive but here you get the quality you paid for. Just sorry they are in Hawaii as we would make this our regular spot. Try it!

We had an amazing early valentines celebration. Sal made a great wine recommendation to pair with our appetizers. We took our time enjoying our dinner and received great service all the way through. The food wow’d us, we’ll definitely be back!

Where do I even begin?! The appetizers were to die for — the kampachi collars, ribs, and oysters were absolute standouts. The pasta course was next level, especially the agnolotti and pappardelle — easily some of the best we’ve had! We even ordered the pork chop Milanese thinking we wouldn’t have enough food… we were definitely wrong (but no regrets 😄). We ended the night with tiramisu and mochi malasadas, which were the perfect sweet finish. Our server Micah was fantastic — incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and his wine pairings were spot on. Highly recommend! Hands down one of the best Italian spots in Kona town. 🍝🍷

Super nice restaurant and bar on a small hill just outside of the downtown area. The food was excellent and the server was super attentive. We told the bar tender what kind of drinks we like and they came back with some really great cocktails. Best we’ve had on the island.

Nicely done, this restaurant is now on our rotation list. OK wine list and they do have corkage which we used for an aged Gevrey-Chambertin. Better than most service, we'll be back.

I can tell that this restaurant is new, but it seems like it will do well. The ocean views from the dining room were stunning. Our server was very nice and our food was so good and fresh. We had the kampachi dish, the mushroom risotto, and a special—a tuscan half chicken with white bean soup. The decor and set up of the restaurant seemed like an afterthought, but the menu, the service, and the food were quality. The restaurant does offer dessert options (tiramisu, mousse, donuts), but there was no dessert menu, which was a bit odd. Overall, this restaurant did a great job where it mattered—food and service. It was certainly a pleasant experience and I’d gladly return.

Went to Walua Social last Friday night and it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had on the big island. I have been coming to Hawaii for over 25 years and this meal was one of the best dining experiences I have had that wasn’t poke or sashimi related. I tend lean toward eating local and find myself having a ton of fish and seafood and Japanese meals while I am in Hawaii (for the same reason I am going to get a steak in Dallas or Oklahoma.) My chef friend told me that the chef here at Walua Social was a great chef and the food coming out of his kitchen was legit. He was absolutely correct! Everything from the hospitality and service to the apps, entrees and dessert was incredibly delicious. The portions were larger than I expected (especially for fine dining) but not excessive… All aspects of the meal were well thought out and even the wine menu had a ton of options by the glass, not just by the bottle. Great dinner. Highly recommended! Make your reservations now,
