Shaka Tacoz (75-6129 Ali'i Dr)
About
Oceanfront Flavor on Ali'i Drive
Steps away from the crashing surf of the Big Island, Shaka Tacoz brings a laid-back, surf-shack energy to the heart of Kailua-Kona. This isn't your typical white-tablecloth establishment; it’s an open-air counter service spot where the salt air mingles with the scent of grilled proteins and freshly chopped cilantro.
Island-Style Mexican Fusion
The menu highlights local influence, moving well beyond standard street fare. The signature fish tacos are the clear standout, utilizing the freshest catch available from nearby waters, seared to perfection and topped with house-made salsas that provide just the right amount of heat. You will also find hearty bowls and burritos that pack enough fuel for an afternoon of snorkeling or wandering the volcanic shoreline.
The Kona Vibe
Expect a casual, flip-flop-friendly atmosphere. It is the ideal pit stop for locals and visitors alike who want to grab a quick bite without sacrificing quality. The seating is modest and rustic—you are here for the view of the Pacific and the food, not for plush upholstery. Note that parking along this stretch of the coast can get a bit tight during peak afternoon hours, but the tradeoff is being positioned directly in the center of the Kona action. Whether you are coming off the beach or preparing for a sunset stroll, the relaxed pace here perfectly mirrors the island rhythm.

Fast and fabulous! We got the Ono tacos, so delish! Excellent toppings and the fish was moist. My husband tried one of the Level 4 sauces and it was quite the spicy fest. I'm a total baby when it comes to heat and even the mango lime was spicy for me. A great slow build. The

I could eat this everyday, the way Chef Kris prepares the food is so delicious every time! Full of flavor, consistent, and always a friendly hand off straight from the chef to your hands! I highly recommend :)

Too high of hopes so it let was a bummer let down. Kept reading how amazing this place is. Well we were craving tacos and thinking about the fabulous ones we had at a fish market restaurant up north from there. But passed this one and I yelled for my hubby to turn around so we could try it . The positive: It has a good flavor and love the salsas. Mango sweet heat is 👍🏻👍🏻. Sad news: The fish was dry and I think it’s cause it is fried. If it was moist then it be a 5⭐️ hands down. I could have paid the same price at the other restaurant and received 3 giant moist ones with impeccable flavor. You don’t know until you try, right? Great people, fast service for a food truck. Maybe it was just an off day or moment? Spending $55 + tip for 6 tacos and a side of Spanish rice better rock my world. That it did not ☹️

It's my second time here in one week, the first time I was at the South location and got the fish tacos which were crazy good, this time I got the birria pork, these are definitely the best birria tacos I have ever had. My only comment is I asked for the number for spicy sauce and it still wasn't hot enough for me! I'm from New Mexico what can I say.

WOW! These might just be the best tacos I have ever had in my life. When in Kona you must check out this gem. I went here with my family and we all loved our meals. The taco shells are delicious, the shaka sauce is sweet and yummy. I ordered a side of guacamole and it was delicious. Also, the people working at shaka tacos are so friendly and nice! Even if there is a line, the food is worth the wait and they get orders out quickly. Overall an amazing taco place!!

The food here is second to none. Top tier tacos is what you will get! The reason I had to give 4 stars is because of the wait time, and specifically how the wait time was communicated. We had a group of 5 very hungry people and we waited a little while to get to the front of the line (which is fine) but then after we had ordered and paid, the lady finally said "oh by the way that will be at least a 30 minute wait." This was frustrating for our group, as we were very hungry and had never experienced a wait like that from a taco stand. If she would have told us before we paid that it would be a long wait, we would've gone somewhere else (as there were other food options right there at the market). It ended up being a 35 minute wait for our tacos. They were absolutely delicious, but the long wait kind of put a damper on our day and our plans! I would advise that you ask at the counter (before you order) about the wait time.

Amazing tacos! Must try! Absolutely true to the reviews. Unique flavors and sauces, and the cheesy tortillas are the perfect texture. Note: the Volcano sauce is super hot. 3 stars for atmosphere just bc it’s a taco truck and no seating. But still worth it!!!

We're Mexican so we know good tacos. And we were ready to judge the hell out of these Shaka Tacoz. On our first bite we were so surprised how freaking good they were. So flavorful. Everything was just right. They did NOT disappoint. The employees were so nice and friendly. Before we left the island we went back to a few more tacos. We asked them what ingredients they used and they were kind enough to share. (We asked just to see if they used what we thought they used) Shaka Tacoz!!! Shout out to you for the love you put in your food!!! We love you 💕

These are some of the best tacos we’ve ever had. We tried one of each, and the fish taco stood out. So flavorful, fresh, and juicy! We loved this place and plan to go back when we’re on the island again in a couple months.
