About
A Cajun Kick on the Kona Coast
Stepping into RocknCrab off Ali'i Drive brings a sudden shift from the tropical calm of the Big Island to the high-energy, finger-licking chaos of a Louisiana crawfish boil. It is a loud, communal space where the scent of garlic butter and spicy Cajun seasoning hangs heavy in the air. If you are looking for a place to get messy with a group of friends, this is your spot.
The Seafood Boil Experience
The menu centers on the DIY boil concept. You pick your catch—typically snow crab legs, shrimp, or king crab—select your spice level, and choose a sauce like the signature house blend. When the heavy plastic bags arrive at your table, the steam carries a sharp, peppery punch. Pro tip: do not skimp on the mild heat unless you truly struggle with spice, as the seasoning profile leans bold and heavy on the aromatics.
Local Observations
The environment is casual to a fault, featuring large communal tables that make it easy to see what everyone else is ordering. The service moves at a pace dictated by the kitchen’s boil timers, which means you might find yourself waiting a bit once the room fills up on weekend nights. Keep in mind that the acoustics are quite live, so don't plan for an intimate, quiet conversation. It is an ideal venue for a post-snorkel hunger fix when you don't mind a little butter on your clothes and salt in your hair.
Why Choose This Kona Eatery?
While Kailua-Kona is famous for fresh poke and local line-caught fish, RocknCrab offers a distinct alternative for those craving a heavy-duty, buttery indulgence. The casual nature of the establishment—from the butcher paper tabletops to the bibs—removes any pretense, allowing diners to focus entirely on the shellfish and the local craft beer pairings available on tap.

Honestly this place was very good and very fair priced.. the food came out so fast and was packaged well for our to go order. A great meal to bring back to the Airbnb when we needed something quick and other places were closed.

Do not go here. We got one boil for our family of five and they literally charged us $240. How is this justifiable and how is this allowed? Additionally, they hand wrote a mandatory 18% gratuity on the receipt. Then, asked for additional gratuity on top of that when we had to get up and ask for service multiple times. We feel like we completely got taken advantage of.

We ordered 3 lb seafood boil - clams, shrimp, snow crab legs. The fish was fresh and tasty. The sauce was nice although I felt it was too much butter. But the garlic kick was good. You get to choose level of spicy you want. Staff was very friendly.

We did not call ahead for reservations for a party of 13, they were able to quickly accommodate and the food was amazing. Came out extremely fast! Our server was super friendly and all 13 left highly satisfied. Get rice with any boil...seafood rice is the best!

Very fresh and deliciously flavored seafood! Ordered the big boil plate. Yes it is oily but with gloves the harm is minimal. Comes with ample veggies that are also tasty due to the sauce. This place allows a rich, fun, energetic freshly caught seafood feast without the hassle of preparing it at home. Service also deserves a shoutout. Tools and waste disposal are provided, waiter was nice and perceptive to our needs. Clam chowder was on the saltier side but still delicious. Also ordered fried chicken wings and it was adequate. Some of the best shrimp I ever had. Overall, I would greatly recommend this store as a Hawaiian seafood experience to remember.
