Queen K Texaco
About
More Than Just A Pit Stop on the Kona Coast
When you are navigating the winding roads of Kailua-Kona, stopping at a service station is usually a chore. At the Queen K Texaco, however, the scent of charcoal-grilled meats and island-style comfort food often draws a crowd that has nothing to do with refueling a vehicle. This local landmark has transformed the typical gas station convenience store experience into a staple for residents looking for authentic, no-fuss Hawaiian plates.
The Flavors of the Big Island
The culinary draw here centers on the hearty, traditional lunch plates that define local island eating. Expect generous scoops of macaroni salad paired with savory proteins like teriyaki chicken or crispy katsu that hit the spot after a morning of surfing or beach-going along the Kona shoreline. The kitchen turns out food with efficiency, keeping the line moving even when local construction crews and road trippers descend during the lunch rush.
A Local Quirk
Be prepared for a bit of a chaotic scene during peak hours. The parking lot can get tight as trucks, tourists, and locals all vie for a spot near the pumps and the food counter. It is noisy, bustling, and completely unpretentious. If you are looking for white tablecloths, look elsewhere, but if you want an honest, high-calorie meal that fuels your adventure through the lava fields of Hawaii, this is where you go. It is a true slice of daily life in Kailua-Kona, offering a pragmatic and flavorful experience that stands out in a tourist-heavy town.

What more could you ask for than Surf‘n‘Turf midtown with an oceanview! Thanks for the delicious dinner and friendly service. The wine was just all right, but the dessert toped it all! Many reasons to make this your go-to place. I did return indeed!

Big Kahuna Beach Grill was wonderful! We ordered burgers and they were delicious. Our server Brian, was great and gave us tips for places to visit. We had a lovely breeze blowing through the open air restaurant and a beautiful view of the bay. The manager, Taylor was also wonderful. She came around and checked everything was good and also gave us tips of other restaurants to go to in Hilo. We definitely recommend!!

Beautiful view! We had reservation for certain table, we got there & someone else was eating there. Not a big deal, got a different table. Sat there 20 min & the waiter hadn’t even asked us about drinks. Finally another lady took over & she was nice to deal with! The real waiter with others also just seemed like chaos!

On our girls trip to Kona we decided to have breakfast/brunch at Big Kahunas. The service was great, they validate parking, the drinks and meal were delicious. We ended up eating here again for dinner on our final night. Forgot to get pictures.

Delicious food and drinks! The Spicy Pineapple Margarita is a must-try. We loved the Shorey Omelette and the Purist French Toast, especially with a side of Portuguese sausage. Great service and beautiful views of Kailua Bay makes this spot a must-visit while in Kona.

We all loved the Poke bowls! Definitely our favorite poke bowl on the island! You can tell they make fresh meals and the chef cares. So flavorful! Mia was the bartender and server and did an exceptional job! Definitely coming back next year.

Great located restaurant. We went there for dinner and breakfast. Food was delicious, especially breakfast- the omelet was very tasty and egg Benedict. Staff very friendly, addressing your needs. The only thing-their coffee needs a little kick. Way too much water where Kona is famous for great coffee.

It is on the second floor, which gives you good ocean views and views of Ali'i Drive. The food has great flavors and a great variety. They also have a great variety of drinks. The Loco Moco has a different twist which give it more of a breakfast taste, which is a nice twist. You have to try it very good.

Most enjoyable place to eat for some of the best clam chowder around with the blend of clams and Mahi Mahi, Philly Steak and Fish abs Chips absolutely did not disappoint. From the very moment we arrived at the top of the stairs the excellence in service awaited us with an amazing smile and greet from the hostess and service from then on. We were checked on many times and were also greeted and checked on by the manager as well. Food was fast and very tasty with a flavor and view that matched. Glad we made this a stop before heading back to California. Thanks to all the staff at Big Kahuna Beach Grill! Top notch.
