About
A Local Secret for Steaming Bowls in Kailua-Kona
Tucked away from the bustling tourist corridors of the Big Island, Pho Kim Anh offers an unpretentious escape for those craving the comfort of authentic Vietnamese cooking. Stepping inside, you are greeted by the hum of quiet conversation and the intoxicating, spiced aroma of star anise, ginger, and slow-simmered beef bones that permeates the air.
The Heart of the Kona Bowl
This spot is a favorite among residents seeking a quick, nourishing lunch or a low-key dinner. The menu focuses on the essentials, centering on traditional pho bowls that prioritize a clear, fragrant broth over unnecessary clutter. The beef noodle soup here is a masterclass in patience, arriving with tender slices of steak, crisp bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, and a generous wedge of lime that cuts through the richness of the soup.
What to Expect on Your Visit
The atmosphere is strictly functional—don't come here looking for white-tablecloth service. Instead, you'll find a relaxed, communal energy where the focus is entirely on the food. It is the kind of place where you might find yourself sitting next to a local surfer grabbing a post-session meal or a family enjoying a casual Saturday lunch. A minor detail to keep in mind: space can be a bit tight during peak hours, and finding parking in the lot can occasionally require a bit of patience, but the steaming, aromatic bowl of noodles waiting for you makes the minor hassle disappear the moment you take your first slurp.
Whether you are a newcomer to Vietnamese cuisine or a seasoned regular searching for that specific, deep flavor profile, Pho Kim Anh brings a slice of Southeast Asian tradition to the heart of Kona. It is honest, flavorful, and hits exactly the spot when you want something warm and restorative in the island heat.

I’m honestly very disappointed and disturbed by this experience. I ordered pho Vietnamese noodles and found a piece of plastic wrapped in with the meat. This is a serious safety concern and completely unacceptable. The meal was completely ruined, and I’ve lost trust in the quality and care of your food preparation. I expect a full refund and appropriate compensation for this experience.

Small family friendly pho place. My husband had beef tenderloin pho I believe and I had a chicken noodle cold salad and it was so cold and refreshing. The vietnamese iced coffee is absolutely amazing strong and taste definitely give it a try if you like coffee.

Ordered the *11. Pho Tai, Nam, Gau ( Eye Round Steak, Flank, Well-done Brisket) and ask to replace the noodles with egg noodles. Very quick service and delicious pho. Only wish I had a little more noodles.
