About
Quick Bites in the Heart of Kailua-Kona
When you are navigating the busy corridors of the Kona Commons shopping center, finding a familiar, consistent meal is often the priority. Panda Express serves as a reliable stop for those needing a rapid refuel after a morning spent exploring the Big Island or running errands around Makala Boulevard. The environment is utilitarian and fast-paced, designed for efficiency whether you are grabbing a box to go or sitting down for a quick lunch amidst the steady hum of island shoppers.
Wok-Fired Classics
The kitchen centers its menu around the iconic Orange Chicken—a dish that balances crispy, breaded poultry with a signature sweet and tangy citrus glaze. Beyond the classics, the chefs at this Kailua-Kona outpost keep the steam tables stocked with honey walnut shrimp and freshly tossed chow mein. You can smell the savory ginger and soy aromatics the moment you step through the glass doors. It is the kind of straightforward, accessible dining that works well for families or solo travelers looking for a budget-friendly alternative to the upscale resorts nearby.
Navigating Your Visit
One reality of dining in this part of town is the parking intensity. During peak lunch and dinner hours, the shared lots around the shopping complex can be crowded, so expect a bit of maneuvering before you settle in for your meal. Once inside, the service is built for speed, making it an ideal choice if you have a tight schedule before heading down toward the Kona coastline. It is not a place for a long, lingering conversation, but it delivers exactly what you expect with predictable consistency.

Order was made incorrectly, and manager declined to fix it. Would have been an easy fix. Food was good, though.

There was an employee with a name tag that read as “GUY” he had pierced earrings. He counted the chicken piece before serving and added only 5 pieces of chicken.

I come to Panda Express every week. The food tastes fine, but here’s the main issue: one male staff member serves extremely small portions—literally gone in one bite. It’s really unacceptable. The other staff give reasonable portions, but only him—he has a bad attitude and gives just a tiny amount of every item. Please don’t let him serve customers here, thank you.

The small lady working today 1:30PM I think her name was Charies. on the Counter Voided my Panda Points after I scanned so I didn’t get my reward. Didn’t ask me if I wanted any sauce or anything for My Teriyaki chicken Asked her for sauce and idk if she couldn’t understand what 8 hot sauce means and gives me only 2. Idk if she was trying to be funny but that’s three strikes. Tried to make it as easy as possible but she made it difficult for me to enjoy my meal. Asked her for a water cup and she puts a fork and fortune cookie inside the cup might as well throw my receipt and change in there too. That was a foul 😂 Customer service could be better

Same great panda express food and service as we see in all their locations. This location had more than the usual vegetarian options also.

The crew all have attitudes. One gal kept plating rice and noodles while one other gal couldn't keep up with entrees. Food just ended up getting super old in the box. Portion sizes were a bit small from the girl with attitude.

Honestly was very tired from a long day out, and wasn’t expecting much going into Panda Express. But honestly, the guy working there (Julius I think his name was) made the experience that much better. He listened to everything we asked, served us well, and most importantly did it with a smile. Thank you Julius and keep up the good work!

I thought everything was awesome. Like literally my first time eating at a Panda Express. Reasonable price and delicious Chinese American food. 3 entrees and a side for 15 bucks is a good deal, it fed 4 small Asians haha.

The food wasn't as good as before. It was much too oilly. Plus the extra priced beef wasn't nearly as good as the beef pieces a year ago for sure! It was disappointing to say the least. My wife got bathroom sick from eating it! Now, we won't be going back again. We used to love going here. Where else are we going to have Chinese food in Kona? It was good to be back in Kona and have a good priced Chinese food here. They are located in the Kona Commons Shopping Center. There was plenty of food for us to share. We recommend getting a take out box to share while eating here. Maybe you will get bigger portions. Who knows. We enjoy their food here. Just stand in line and pick out what you want. Angus Pepper steak, Tofu Eggplant which is so soft and tasty, chicken eggs plenty of chicken and hot and many more to choose from. Good price and tasty, too!

The service was good but the food was a disappointment. The chicken was very dry, not to mention the chowmein I don't know if it was leftover from day before or it wasn't cook properly. Waste of $60 will not eat here again.
