Orchid Thai Cuisine
About
A Taste of Thailand on the Kona Coast
Stepping into Orchid Thai Cuisine brings a necessary sharp, spicy contrast to the laid-back rhythm of Kailua-Kona. Located right in the heart of town, the space feels like a local secret where the air hangs heavy with the scent of lemongrass, galangal, and searing chilis. It is the kind of place you duck into after a long day of snorkeling when you need something bold enough to wake up your palate.
The Culinary Signature
The menu leans heavily into traditional preparation. Locals know to order the Pad Thai, which arrives perfectly balanced between sweet and tamarind-tangy, often topped with a generous sprinkle of crushed peanuts. If you want to push the heat, their Green Curry is a standout; it carries a punchy, vibrant heat that pairs exceptionally well with a side of jasmine rice. The kitchen doesn't shy away from authentic spice levels, so don't be afraid to ask your server for a custom heat adjustment.
The Kona Dining Experience
The interior is unpretentious, favoring function over flair, which keeps the focus entirely on the bowls of fragrant noodles and stir-fry. It is an ideal spot for a casual dinner with friends or a quick, satisfying takeout meal to enjoy on a nearby beach during sunset. Just a heads up: the central Kona location means parking can get tricky during the peak dinner rush, so plan to circle the block or walk from a nearby coastal lot. Whether you are craving the comfort of a Tom Kha soup or the crunch of fresh spring rolls, this kitchen captures a level of consistency that keeps residents coming back through the rotating seasons of island life.

Two dine in. Ordered #32 Tom Yum, #22 Somton with shrimp , #45 Basil with beef and white and black sticky rice. For dessert, we ordered mango coconut cream on white sticky rice. Food is great in taste. Price is reasonable. Just want to add more to review here after having Thai food at different Thai restaurant. Orchid Thai cuisine is like Pop and Mom restaurant style and more authentic taste for Asian who familiar with Thai food. Also, I recommend it for those who interested in Thai food.

Away from the typical visitor areas but well worth finding if you really love fresh and tasty Thai food... We have been steady customers for years and appreciate that the quality and taste is always top notch... Highly recommend the Coconut Soup with Shrimp... very satisfying. Pad Thai is very good plus I love their Tapioca Pudding or Fresh Mango Sticky Rice as a special treat... Yum!

Best Thai we've ever had! Owned, cooked, and served by a family from Thailand, so it's extremely authentic. Also one of the few places you can get very spicy food in Kona, although you can request mild if you prefer. It takes a bit longer to make the meal because everything is cooked fresh, so come when you aren't in a rush and have time to savor the results. Every dish we had was absolutely amazing! We ordered the chicken satay, long rice soup, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice, panang curry, coconut sticky rice with mango slices, and Thai tapioca pudding.

Been to this restaurant 3 times. It's one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Kona for dining in. The interior decoration made me feel I was in a different era. Food was delicious, consistently. Our waitress was very sweet and gentle spirited.

Bland food and poor service. We paid nearly $60 for dinner for 2 and ended up throwing away most of it. See attached pics of the rice, there was slimey brown chunks in it! It was the wrong type of rice and you don't get rice with the curry so make sure you add that to your oder. That was the 1st time I've ever had to do that. The fresh rolls with chicken were tasteless and rolled terribly (see pic). The beef in my pad Thai (1st time trying with beef) was bland and all the toppings (peanuts and garnish) were at the bottom. They need to learn how to season the food. We also got a curry, there was a thick layer of oil ontop and the potatoes were nearly mush as if they had been simmering in the sauce allllll day. It took 45 minutes to get our food and we were take out...the resturant was only half full so it shouldn't have taken this long but she did say it would be about a 30 minute wait. I tried to call the place when I got home to talk about the problems but they had just closed so I called the next day. They lady was really rude and refused to even give a partial refund. She just assumed we were tourists (said "sorry to ruin your vacation") but I live here and will not be suggesting this place to anyone. I even waited to post this review until I spoke with them to give them a chance to fix the problem, too bad because a little kindness would have gone a long way.

It was nice to eat at Orchid again. With the COVID and traveling, we won't able to enjoy their food. We are with our good friends and we all said we would eat here again. I would recommend eating here. You won't be disappointed. If you go during their lunch time up until 2:30pm, you can have a wonderful meal under $13 per person!

Really wonderful Thai food; my friend and I got the veggie pad see ew and the veggie Panang curry. Both were delicious, good flavors and good portions for a lunch. Prices were fair; Thai iced tea was kind of syrupy sweet though, and the iced jasmine tea was quite watery. Will absolutely return for more food~

Got like 3 tiny pieces of chicken In our pad Thai, as well as well as 6 TINY pieces of meat. Food had no taste but just pepper. Adding a small bowl of red curry and the total is $45!!! Biggest disappointment in Thai industry. Asked for a refund because I literally couldn’t eat anything and got a good big NO.

Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you! Once you walk into the restaurant, you'll find a cozy space with authentic decor. The spicy beef salad was fantastic! Cashew chicken was great. My husband had the ground beef basil. He thought the beef was too bland. Service was fast and courteous. Bathroom set up was odd, but clean.
