Oceans Sports Bar And Grill
About
Front-Row Seats to Kona Sunsets
If you are wandering along Ali'i Drive looking for a place where the salt air mixes with the scent of searing pupus, Oceans Sports Bar and Grill delivers the quintessential Big Island casual experience. This is not the place for hushed fine dining; it is a high-energy hub where the clatter of silverware competes with the roar of the surf just yards away.
The Island Game Day Ritual
Locals and visitors alike gravitate toward the wide-open bar area when the game is on. With oversized screens positioned to catch every touchdown and goal, the atmosphere turns electric during peak sporting hours. You will find yourself elbow-to-elbow with fellow travelers while sipping on ice-cold Kona Brewing Co. drafts. If you lean toward something stronger, their Mai Tais are poured with a heavy hand, perfect for cooling down after a humid day exploring the nearby coffee farms.
Menu Staples and Local Flavor
The menu leans heavily into island comfort food. Their fish tacos are a standout, featuring the fresh catch of the day lightly seasoned and served with a side of house-made slaw that offers just the right amount of crunch. The portions are substantial enough to fuel you up before a snorkel trip or after a long hike in the Kona sun.
A Quick Observation
Be aware that finding parking along this stretch of the Kona coast can be a bit of a localized sport itself. Once you secure a spot, you are rewarded with an unobstructed view of the Pacific horizon. It gets loud, the service is fast-paced, and the humidity keeps the patio feeling like a true tropical escape. It is the kind of spot where you show up in your sandals, order a round of appetizers for the table, and let the afternoon slide into an evening of live music and ocean breezes.

As a bar it's good; fun atmosphere with karaoke and drinks. Bar staff could be better, it seems they prioritize certain customers. The food was pretty wack, I got the assortment of tacos and none of them were good. Stiff tortillas and all meats were dry with no flavor.. Eat elsewhere then definitely come hear to end the night with karaoke and drinks

Was just in Kona Town for my first time last weekend and fell in love with Oceans. If I lived there it would be my spot. The staff, food and drinks were awesome and the vibe was super fun. I met the owner and she was amazing. Such a friendly and fun host to me and my friends. The locals were cool and it was good vibes all around.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks to end the night. Easy going vibe, played back dive bar atmosphere. Younger crowd- pool tables and DJ. Seemed like a less touristy place. Nice deep and inexpensive pours. Bartenders fast and friendly.

This bar is hands down the best place to watch Seahawks games! As the home of the Kona 12s, the energy here is unmatched. We’ve been coming here for years, and it’s always such a fun experience. The tables are even decorated for game day, which adds a great touch. The service is always fantastic, the food and drink selection is excellent, and the prices are super reasonable. If you’re a Seahawks fan (or just love a lively sports bar), this is the spot to be. Go Hawks! 🏈💚💙

We had a fantastic Monday night dinner at Oceans Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Kona, right next to the volleyball courts. It was fish and chips night, and the meal did not disappoint—the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, the fries were crispy, and everything was served hot. Service was friendly and attentive, (thank you Michelle V) and since Mondays are a bit quieter, we got to pick any table we wanted. The $6 Mai Tais were a nice bonus and added to the laid-back island vibe. If you're looking for great food at a great value in a relaxed atmosphere, this spot is a must-visit!

Stopped in Kona on our way around the island for a quick 24hr experience on Hawaii’s big island. It was 8:40p by the time we made it to Oceans Sports Bar. We chose it because it serves food so late - which is so difficult to find in Hawaii. Everything closes or stops food service at 8:30-9p. By 9P it held more of a club scene with DJ, dancing, young adults, and a full bar. We got seated right away, had fantastic service by our waitress and were satisfied with the food options, taste and draft beers. It made for a fun and entertaining experience to the end of the night.

Street tacos 🌮 rule the day here. The pork and the chicken 🐔 are the better of the options. There is some great flavor in these two.. The steak tastes like it was made yesterday and brought out of the refrigerator to be reheated. The prices are also the best in the area.

This is a legitimate bar, with two pool tables. The food isn’t anything stellar, which is why it only gets 4 stars. Seems like the food is frozen and not exactly fresh. This bar is located right next to several other restaurants, so it’s not “off the beaten path”, it’s right in the middle of your face if you’re looking around. Come here if you don’t want to spend forever waiting in line at a restaurant next door. Drinks and service are good.

Friendly service…. Fast and attentive. The food was average for even bar food! We got fries and mozzarella sticks. The marinara had a weird taste and consistency. The mai tai is $5.00 all day everyday, but I would not recommend them.
