Ocean Seafood Chinese Restaurant
About
A Slice of Cantonese Tradition on the Kona Coast
When you crave classic comfort food amidst the salty air of Kailua-Kona, Ocean Seafood Chinese Restaurant provides a straightforward, no-nonsense dining experience. Located centrally for those exploring the west side of the Big Island, this spot ditches the pretense of high-end fusion for the reliable, hearty flavors of traditional Chinese cuisine. The dining room carries a modest, casual energy that feels like a hometown staple—the kind of place where the clatter of woks from the kitchen is the primary soundtrack.
Savoring the Catch
The menu leans heavily into Cantonese roots, with the seafood dishes serving as the primary draw. Locals often gravitate toward their salt and pepper shrimp or the steamed fish platters, which prioritize the freshness of the catch over overly complex spice profiles. Portions are generous, making it an ideal stop for families or groups trekking back from the beaches along Ali'i Drive who need a substantial meal. The hot and sour soup offers a reliable kick, while their noodle dishes maintain the perfect springy texture expected from a well-seasoned kitchen.
The Kona Dining Quirk
Dining here is an exercise in authentic local pace. While the service is efficient, don't expect a rushed experience; it is designed for lingering over a pot of tea and sharing plates. Be prepared for the bustling environment during peak lunch and dinner hours, as this is a popular hub for residents. If you find the parking lot near the storefront a bit tight, a quick walk through the surrounding commercial plaza is standard practice for the area. It is a genuine slice of Kailua-Kona life that remains grounded in tradition, perfect for those who prioritize flavor and portion over polished aesthetics.

The shrimp Foo Yang is great I’ve been ordering it for 7 yrs. But recently I switched to soft shell crab & it’s outstanding. I could never get my soft shell crab to turn out like there’s. It’s so crispy and 1 order is enough but I can’t help myself & have to have a 2nd order. You get plenty in 1 order. I won’t be ordering my crab from anymore even though it’s fresh, I can’t cook it like they do here at Ocean seafood. I’m a retired Fire Capt from Ca. And all firemen live great food.

We went for the crab rangoons and fried shrimp, which where really good. The sweet and sour pork was good as well, just too much fat. The concerning part came when food started being prepped at one of the tables with no gloves. I couldn't tell what it was, something wrapped in a wonton, and once wrapped they were placed directly on a serving tray.

Excellent food. Friendly wait staff. Good value for money. We had the chicken and corn soup, roast duck, and fried rice. The first two items were exceptional- as good as you can find in mainland US in a big metro. The fried rice was decent. This is a way better restaurant than what the 4.0 rating suggests.

Food is alright here. We had the 1. Salt and pepper tofu with broccoli and 2. Tofu in black bean sauce. Both dishes were average. Portion sizes were decent.

Highly recommend… This restaurant was across the street from our hotel. It had good reviews and I was craving Chinese Seafood. This is a hidden gem. The menu was extensive and the price was very reasonable. We enjoyed our dinner. The servings were huge and the seafood were fresh. Our servers were friendly and efficient. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant was spacious.

You have to try this place. One of the BEST (if not the best) seafood places on the Big Island. I don’t understand why this place is so underrated. We ordered the jellyfish, scallop soup, and steam fish. Steam fish is AMAZING. Our fish is Uhu and it’s so tender and delicious. The price is also good compared to some overpriced fine dining restaurants. It’s really authentic Chinese food, even better than some restaurants in LA or the Bay Area. Overall, fantastic restaurant.

This is a perfect family gathering for lunch. Came here to celebrate our friend’s mom’s birthday. Sanitation area upon entering. Plenty chairs & tables available (social distancing in placed). Pretty good Chinese dishes served here. Staffs are prompt and efficient. Amongst my favorites are chicken wings, Mongolian beef & honey walnut shrimps. Will recommend you if planning to celebrate special occasions with family & friends.
