Magics Beach Grill
About
Front Row Seats to the Kona Coast
When you step into Magics Beach Grill, the first thing that hits you isn't the menu—it's the relentless rhythm of the Pacific crashing against the lava rock just feet away. Positioned right above Magic Sands Beach, the restaurant captures the raw energy of Kailua-Kona, offering an open-air layout that makes the salty breeze a permanent guest at your table.
Farm-to-Table Island Flavors
Chef-driven plates here prioritize the bounty of the Big Island. The kitchen focuses on regional ingredients, turning out elevated staples like fresh-caught Hawaiian snapper and locally sourced wagyu sliders. Their approach is straightforward: let the quality of the Kona-grown produce and line-caught seafood do the heavy lifting. The scent of charred kiawe wood often drifts through the air, hinting at the grill work happening just inside.
The Rhythm of the Beach
This is the go-to spot for those who want their happy hour with a side of surf watching. It strikes a balance between laid-back beach bar and refined coastal dining, making it equally suitable for a sun-drenched lunch or a sunset dinner date. While the proximity to the shore provides an unmatched aesthetic, keep in mind that the parking lot is famously tight—typical for this stretch of Alii Drive—so arrive a few minutes early to secure a spot.
As the sun dips below the horizon, the atmosphere shifts from casual beach chatter to a warm, glowing hum. If you find yourself in West Hawaii, sitting on this deck with a craft cocktail in hand is perhaps the most authentic way to experience the Kona lifestyle.

Very friendly service, and not a long wait. Outdoor seating offers great views of the beach and the sunset! The food was great, the fish tacos were very tasty. And to top it all off, one of the best espresso martinis we’ve ever had! Highly recommend stopping here.

We made reservations for 5:30pm, but showed up early. The hostess had no problem seating us early and was happy to do so. We sat on the deck with the ocean crashing into the rocks below. It was awesome! There were three of us and we were all very comfortable. Dinner included a wedge salad, Cesar salad, appetizer of 6 customized shrimp, Steak and smashed potatoes, Chicken and potatoes and Sea Scallops and rissotto. Not exaggerating when I say everything was cooked to perfection. The meat melted in our mouths. Great location on the water, total beach vibe. Exactly the kind of place I was hoping to find to have a higher end dinner experience at. The servers were very attentive, prompt and friendly and earned every bit of the tip. We will be back for sure. Are there nicer places out there? Probably. Is there better food out there? Probably. But, so what? This place is a complete gem and worth every penny!

This restaurant is “Magic”! The food, both lunch and dinner, is first class, with excellent, such pleasant service and incredible views! Never a dull moment watching the adventures going on in the breaking waves just feet away from the tables! If you’re lucky, Jay will wait on you - first class service with such an adorable smile! On point from behind to end!

Probably the best beachfront restaurant in Kona, tried them all - Magics has the best food compared to the rest. If you're looking for the picturesque atmosphere, this should be your choice... but if you're a hardcore foodie, go inland a bit. Beachfront locations come with a price - same check, not-quite-as-good food. It's a trade off, imo. Regardless, if you want the waves crashing in your line of sight while dining in Kona, this is most definitely the place. Recommend the beef bulgogi and karaage fish appetizers and any steak for dinner - note steaks are cut thin though. Excellent service & view, good quality food. Edit: updated from 4 to 5 stars for one reason - we felt COMPLETELY unrushed in our experience. The restaurant biz is 25% food and 75% real estate. Not here. Mahalo, Magics. Will be back. Soon.

This restaurant has gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets. Truly beautiful scenery. All of the seating is open air and you can see the sunset from all tables. My food was very good. The service is okay. We were given a water cup with someone’s lipstick on it which was pretty gross. Our server barely checked on us and after we asked for the check we waited a very long time before finally asking another server for our check. It’s very expensive but so is every other restaurant on the island so it’s to be expected.

Absolutely fantastic spot! Local fare was amazing and we always get the Ulu (kind of like Hawaiian sweet potatoes). So fun sitting outside watching everyone boogie board too. Drinks were delicious and lots of options. Great happy hour! Fills up so get there early or make reservations! We go every time!
