La Bourgogne French Restaurant

This is the most amazing meal I've had on the Big Island. Drove past it for years, then decided on it for a date night. Its family run, personal and friendly staff. The head chef meets every guest. The skill of the cooking is impressive! It was a wonderful experience, we will be back and will be recommending this experience!

Fresh cooked dishes. The filet was tender and delicious. The Ono was dry with excessive lemon sauce. Over powering the delicate taste of the fish.

Absolutely stunning meal, on every level. Exquisitely prepared, no pretentiousness, a nod to the golden era of true fine dining. This place is what all restaurants WANT to be, but so very few can do anymore. This is true food, prepared with a deft touch and a reverence to classic proven technique, without all the tiktok/instagram fake filter garbage that so many have tried to make themselves look better. La Bourgogne doesn't need any of that BS, it's just simply...a real restaurant with a real crew working with real ingredients with real love for what they are doing now, not in the past or the future, but in that moment with eachother. When a restaurant staff clicks like that, you can taste it in what they put out. They all obviously have the gift of experience and an understanding of the culture of food, to not push the envelope where it doesn't need to be, but instead to slow down in the present and take the time to do things right. This restaurant is a gem. Plain and simple. Go there, quickly.

We dined here last weekend and, at first glance, the restaurant is small and feels a little dated—but don’t let that put you off. The food is phenomenal. The menu is simple and classic, yet every dish is executed to perfection. We enjoyed the French onion soup, mushroom soup (a special that night), catch of the day, cheese board, and the lilikoi cheesecake—everything was outstanding. The wine list is small but thoughtfully curated and pairs beautifully with the food. What truly made the experience special was the genuine family-owned atmosphere. The owner, who is also the head chef, came out to chat with us, which made us feel incredibly welcome and turned a great meal into a memorable one.

Excellent service, Excellent food. The place is old and beautiful. A bit of a smell when it just rained. Some of her (the Chef/owner) menu items are tremendous. The lobster bisque is one of the best I have ever had. The chocolate desserts are amazing. Very personable place to eat. Outstanding French cuisine with a local flair. If you’re in Kona, make the time to treat yourself. Hubby and I took a chance and stopped in without a reservation, thank goodness Cindy was able to accommodate us. Pre fixe meal we ordered Escargots and Baked Brie for our appetizers. Entree we ordered: Duck consule and Beef Bourgeon We splurged for the Duck Confit and it did not dissapoint. Dessert:Profitrole and Pot de Crema Bonus Creme Brulee

I read that this place is ranked among the top 10 for the best food, so I decided to try my luck. When I arrived at the building, it looked like a typical establishment from the outside. But once I stepped inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. From the music to the decorations, I loved everything about it. Service: The owner is responsible for the wine selection, and the wines here are truly top-notch. The service goes above and beyond. I was also amazed by the paintings inside; it turns out our server painted them himself. These landscapes are simply stunning. p.s. Ask to see the gallery. We really enjoyed this dinner. French dining that was flavorful & hearty. Not aggressive or stuffy. Menu was fixed price for 3 courses. French onion soup and wedge salad were exquisite. The filet with Cabernet reduction was perfectly cooked. Wine list has great options at tremendous values and the cocktails are delicious.

Everything was amazing here, good to service. The mother and son duo running service and the kitchen were fabulous, very kind and attentive. The food was delicious. I had the sweetbreads which were incredible, highly recommend. The frog legs, baked Brie, duck, and desserts were all delicious as well.

Almost impossible to believe, but this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Maybe it's because I didn't expect such an incredible French restaurant to be on an island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, but after meeting the owner/chef and having her not only take our order, but then have her son as our waiter, you can tell she has poured her heart and soul into the restaurant. This is no better represented than the incredible food that was served, along with the ambiance, artwork, and the very intimate dining experience. As soon as you know you'll be on the big island, give them a call and get a reservation. You won't be disappointed.
