About
From Soil to Sip in the Heart of Kona
Stepping into the Kona Coffee Factory, you are immediately met with the heavy, comforting scent of roasting beans that hangs in the humid Kailua-Kona air. This isn't your typical polished coffee chain; it is a raw, industrial-adjacent space where the focus is entirely on the journey of the bean. You can watch the roasting process unfold right before your eyes, a sensory treat that brings you as close to the harvest as possible without stepping foot in the actual coffee orchards.
A Local Ritual
For those living or visiting the west side of the Big Island, this is a essential pit stop. The flavor profile of their 100% Kona coffee is distinct—bright, clean, and carrying a subtle floral acidity that you just don't get with mass-market imports. Most visitors linger at the counter, listening to the hum of the roasters while debating between a dark roast or the smoother medium options. It is an unpretentious environment, though you should be prepared for the parking lot, which can get quite tight during the mid-morning rush when the tour buses pass through.
Why Visit?
If you care about the provenance of your morning cup, this is the place to be. It is the perfect spot for coffee purists who want to grab a bag of beans sourced directly from the volcanic slopes overlooking the Pacific. The atmosphere is functional and authentic, stripping away the gimmicks of modern cafes to highlight the premium quality of the local crop. Grab a fresh pour, lean against the counter, and enjoy a true taste of Hawaii’s famous coffee belt.

Highly recommend the Local Kine smoothie. It was out of this world delicious! Coffee, bagel, and breakfast sandwich were also great. The smoothie was so good we made sure to visit a second time while on our vacation!

🌺🤙🏽 Huge shout-out to Kohola Coffee 🐋 🙌 Every time I stop by, I leave feeling so much aloha. This coffee truck is a true gem in our community, with reasonable prices and the freshest local ingredients. What makes it extra special isn’t just the amazing coffee, it’s the heart behind it. Jeannette built this business from the ground up, and you can feel her passion and hard work in every detail. It’s rare to find a spot that serves incredible drinks and creates such a genuine sense of community, but she’s nailed it. Even if you’re not a coffee person, there are plenty of other delicious drinks (the matcha is my favorite) and the food always hits the spot. The convenience of the drive-through also makes it so easy to swing by and grab something tasty on the go. Highly recommend stopping in, it’s the best coffee shop in Kona. Plus supporting a self-made local entrepreneur who pours her heart into everything she does is the best bonus! 🌴✨

Best coffee on the island! Very reasonably priced too. The owner is so sweet and knowledgeable about coffee and espresso. I got the Ube latte with Ube whipped cream and my sister got a matcha drink (mermaid garden).

Shaylee was an outstanding barista, hospitable and warm and bright even at 6:30 in the morning. The special matcha drink, “Mermaid’s Garden” comes very lightly sweetened only by the blueberry compote. The blueberries in the bottom was giving healthy boba sipping experience. I like my matcha with some sweetness, and Shaylee happily added some vanilla for me. It made all the difference. the ube whip cream on top was spectacular especially on its own. I’m craving it still. The ham and cheese croissant was perfectly toasted. It totally hit the spot and fueled me for my hike.

AMAZING! Service was wonderful, and delicous coffee and smoothie, best we’ve ever had! We tried the Ube iced latte with her homemade Ube whipped cream- OMG, a must try (wish I would’ve gotten the biggest size)! 😋 We also tried the Kai Uli smoothie with coconut milk, the fresh fruit made this very refreshing and tasty! Kohola Coffee is a must stop visit, definetly making another stop before we leave. Mahalo! 🐋

Struggling to understand the hype of this place. It was nice that we could drive through. $11 for a red bull smoothie is pretty steep (I'm from Alaska where red bull smoothies are the norm). There was almost zero flavor in it. I asked for raspberry and she poured the rest of the bottle in the mixer and never opened a new bottle to put more in. It was also not blended very well and had chunks of ice in it. We also got a white chocolate mocha with caramel. She put the syrup in the bottom and every on top and never mixed it up. So when you drank it, it was bitter/zero flavor for 3/4 of the coffee and then all syrup at the end. There is better coffee on the island.

We just arrived in Hawaii, and this was the perfect first stop! The coffee is absolutely delicious and the croissant sandwich was amazing: fresh, flaky, and full of flavor. Smoothie has real fruit so many flavors exploded in my mouth it was so delicious! Jeannette was so warm and welcoming, even gave us little flowers, which made it feel extra special. The quality of everything here is outstanding. We left a generous tip — they truly deserve it! A must-visit spot if you’re in the area. Thank you so much for such a wonderful start to our trip!
