About
Island-Style Comfort at Kona Chinese BBQ
Tucked away in the heart of Kailua-Kona, Kona Chinese BBQ offers a no-frills approach to Cantonese-inspired favorites. This local staple focuses on the kind of hearty, plate-lunch style dining that fuels surfers and families alike before a long day on the Big Island waters.
Savoring the Smoke and Spice
The scent of charred meats hits you the moment the screen door swings open. Known primarily for their barbecue pork and roast duck, the kitchen maintains a rotating selection of classics that pair perfectly with a mound of steamed white rice. The skin on the roasted duck carries a subtle crackle, while the BBQ pork is glazed with a sweetness that leans into the local palate. It’s unpretentious fuel, served in hefty portions that rarely leave you wanting.
A Casual Kona Hangout
The atmosphere is strictly functional—a place to grab a quick bite rather than settle in for a long, quiet evening. Expect the ambient hum of local conversation and the occasional clatter of busy kitchen service. It is a popular stop for residents working in the surrounding Kailua-Kona commercial district. Keep in mind that seating is modest and the midday rush can make parking in the immediate vicinity a bit of a puzzle, but that’s standard for the area. If you find yourself craving straightforward, savory Chinese dishes while exploring the west coast of Hawaii, this is a reliable destination for a satisfying, affordable meal.

This place is amazing, the prices are incredible. All of this meat, 2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad for 14.99!!! The meat is so tender and deliciously marinated. Simple, small seating area but so worth it for a quick, inexpensive, DELICIOUS meal in Kona especially if you’re not trying to spend $30 a meal every time you go out to eat!

I think best chinese food in Kona. I like seafood crispy noodle and chicken katsu was so good. But orange chicken was not good as I expected. They get the seasoning right. I am little confused about the tip rules in here.

Food 4/5 - Ordered mochiko chicken plate and beef chow fun. Chow fun noodles were al dente, as it could’ve been a little more softer. Beef pieces are thinly sliced, but are portioned generously. It has the “wok-hei”, but could use some more soy sauce. Mochiko chicken was nicely fried, as the chicken wasn’t dry. Mac salad was good too. Service 3/5 - Service is normal for a take-out style restaurant. Ambiance 3/5 - This is focused more as a take-out style restaurant, so there are only a couple tables inside. Tables are tidy and condiments are kept clean. Overall - Had a pleasant experience and would visit again.

I ordered several portions of beef because I really like it. It's delicious and the portion size is generous. The boss is also very nice.

This small store may be tiny, but it has everything. You can enjoy teppanyaki, Chinese stir-fried rice and dishes in a wok, as well as local specialties. It caters to the needs of my whole family. It's just wonderful.
