About
Flavor Worth the Hunt in Kailua-Kona
Tucked away from the polished resort strips of the Big Island, Killer Tacos delivers exactly what the name promises: no-frills, heavy-hitting flavor. This is where locals grab a quick bite when they want seasoning that actually packs a punch. The interior is sparse and functional, focusing entirely on the open kitchen where the scent of charred carne asada and toasted corn tortillas dominates the air.
The Signature Experience
The menu leans into authentic, oversized portions that satisfy the post-surf hunger common in this part of Kona. Their signature tacos are piled high with fresh cilantro, onions, and house-made salsas that lean into a genuine heat profile. Unlike the fusion-heavy spots nearby, this is straightforward street food. Expect the steady clatter of grill spatulas and a radio humming in the background—it is a loud, energetic space that doesn't pretend to be fine dining.
Practical Local Intel
Finding a spot for your car can be a bit of a challenge during the busy lunch hour, as the lot fills up with surf racks and work trucks quickly. If you can snag a stool, you are in for a filling meal that prioritizes quality ingredients over aesthetic plating. It is the ideal stop for anyone traversing the Kona coast who values a massive burrito or a plate of well-seasoned tacos over a white-tablecloth experience. Whether you are coming off the water or driving down from the slopes of Hualālai, the service is fast, direct, and efficient.

Good food but has gotten insanely expensive. From the menu photos posted here you can see how it has increased **50%** in the past few years. Costs have gone up but not this much, so it’s kind of messed up. Longboard up from $9.99 to $14.99!! The prices are insane for somewhere with zero service.

Update: unfortunately our recent visit was very disappointing. Fish they are using are not good taste like a school canteen fried nuggets. They really need to start using good quality fish specially for the price they are charging. Hopefully next time we come, it will taste better 5 years ago: Wow these killer tacos are seriously dangerous! Super delicious and super fast service chipotle style. Our favorite was Everything!!! We LOVED fish burritos, hard shell and soft tacos. You can’t go wrong with any order. This is our favorite spot on the island for sure! Highly recommend

Your on vacation and its lunchtime with a big dinner planned out tonight. Your hungry . What a delight to find this hometown taco eatery for a great lunch . It is affordable with lots of choices. I had the pork hard shell tacos and they were great. They have both hard and soft shell. If you like your salsa real hot you must tell them . They have lunch specials too. Order at counter with tables inside . Only one small table outside . Not fancy but a real lunch stop. Agh, you could have dinner there too.:)

If there was time I would return again!!! (Only restaurant in a week and a half vacation, I've said this!) Between the three of us we had: three fish tacos, a cheese quesadilla with jalapeno, the all meat burrito, can of ginger ale. (My burrito might have been called beach bum. The $19.99 laminated sign, beside ordering.) You can have no salsa, mild, medium or hot. I had three choices of wraps for the burrito. The soft taco I believe my parents each had a choice for their wrap. We had three water cups. I highly suggest explaining HOW to get water to people, when giving cups for water. My Dad put the purple sparkling vitamin water from the Pop/soda machine, in all three cups. When I told him at the table, after I sipped, 'that isn't water'. He told me 'that's the water they have'. He took a sip and spit it back into the cup. Luckily he's the one that had the $1.99 canned drink! My mother tried the sparkling water. She only had something to drink, as my father gave her some of his ginger ale. (They weren't going to pay $2.99 for the smallest cup for pop/soda machine.) When I refilled my water cup: there was a little sticker on top of a small gray button, to dispense tap water. It's on the sparkling water option. (I'm going form memory: If there was a sticker. We've been to a few places to eat out. Everywhere else: has filled the water cup, with water from the tap, at the sink behind the cash register. Which could have also been done here. If I was a thief and the one that was doing the water cups. Instead of my mother and I carrying the food to the table. I could have had a pop in the water glass. These are non-clear glasses. There's a good chance people drinking the pop/soda for free.)
