Holua Poolside Bar & Lounge
About
Sip Beside the Pacific
When the sun hits its peak over the Big Island, Holua Poolside Bar & Lounge provides a necessary retreat. Located within the Sheraton Kona Resort grounds, this open-air spot captures the trade winds sweeping off the Kona Coast. You aren't here for a formal dinner; you are here for the casual rhythm of splashing water and the faint hum of Hawaiian slack-key guitar drifting from the nearby main lobby.
Island Libations
The menu focuses on classic tropical refreshments that define the Kailua-Kona resort lifestyle. Expect tall, ice-cold Mai Tais garnished with fresh pineapple and local lime, alongside a rotating selection of Kona Brewing Co. craft beers on draft. If you are feeling peckish between swims, the bar serves light fare—think crisp salads and blackened fish tacos that hit the spot without weighing you down in the humidity.
The Kona Vibe
The atmosphere is decidedly relaxed, making it a favorite for families taking a break from the pool and travelers looking to transition from a morning of snorkeling to a mellow afternoon. Seating is predominantly lounge-style, perfect for watching the palm trees sway against the blue sky. Keep in mind that as the sun begins its descent, the space becomes a popular vantage point for guests wanting to catch the sunset without straying too far from their loungers. It can get a bit brisk when the wind picks up, so grabbing a towel or a light cover-up is a smart move. It’s an unpretentious, straightforward spot where the goal is simply to stay cool while enjoying the view of the Pacific horizon.

Food is not worth the price. I forgot to mention the several long slimy lettuce dregs in the salad previously. Even the least talented prepper should have caught as they emptied the bag onto the plate.

Lots of bad reviews were warning me off, but I gave it a crack, like who wants to leave a resort anyway. Burger was nice. Staff were attentive. 20 bucks for a burger in a resort to me sounds like good value. $5 beer in happy hour.

Over priced mediocre food. I had several things from the menu to try and give them a chance but they just kept failing. The avocado fries are good, they are your best bet if you are starving and can't make it someplace else. The burger is garbage, A whopper tastes better and I quit eating fast food over a decade ago. Simply put just don't eat here. If you are stuck here and want to drink, go to the store and buy some alcohol don't buy it from the bar. At the bar it's $18 for a 16oz mixed drink. If you want to throw your money away go ahead. You best bet is going to Walmart and buying a blender. Get yourself some liquor and make your own in your room, put it in the hotel provided flask then go-to the pool. (They'll never know). This may be more work but you won't go bankrupt trying to enjoy your stay.

Such a shame that I have to leave this review... the bar was busy, so I waited in line for 10mins to order. The person in front of me was served, and when it was my turn the bartenders never came back. One even started returning plates to the kitchen and checking on other guests. I waited 5 more minutes, then walked away. I didn't mind the wait due to the long ljne, but them why stop serving when it was my turn? This is a beautiful resort, and lunch was delicious, but this weird treatment while waiting for a drink is the feeling I'll be remembering instead of all the nice things.

Jade our server was a delight! Order the fish tacos (hold the cheese) with the taro and sweet potato chips. Fried Avocado appetizer has a sweet soy sauce and Sriracha aïoli drizzle.

Holua serves as the Outrigger Kona Resort's pool bar and restaurant. We hardly ever patronize hotel pools while on mini vacays, but being that Kona is not Honolulu, we did something different which was cool. Because we already ate breakfast, we just had drinks while at the pool. ATMOSPHERE: A circular bar with a big protective roof sits off to the side of the pool with bar stools, high tops and regular tables. It's a mellow pool bar vibe compared to what I've seen at other Hawaii resorts. MENU: Apps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, desserts, alcohol. DRINK: Lava Flow I didn't see it listed on the menu but was available to order. The taste was really good but I couldn't detect any alcohol in it. Order a virgin and save yourself some money perhaps? SERVICE: The male server was friendly and professional. OVERALL: Good drinks, but very pricey which brought it down to 3 stars.

Great little poolside spot. Perfect for drinks and a quick little snack. They also have TVs, which is awesome if you are trying to catch a game. Had the fish tacos. They were pretty good. Loved my mango mojito drink 🍹 😋

We had great, speedy service, and the food was great! We had the poke bowl, chicken dipper basket, wings, and a chicken-cheese quesadilla. Everything was about the size you'd expect except for the wings. There are only 5 but the texture was good! The prices are about what you'd expect at an oceanfront resort- about $14-18 per appetizer and $18-30 for entrees. For those with kids, the chicken dipper basket at $18 comes with fries and is big enough to split. The quesadilla at $14 is also huge. Oh, the Mai Tai was good, but the Lava Flow Mai Tai was absolutely better!!!
