I had mixed experiences at Yama Sushi. The garlic spicy shrimp was absolutely delicious and the spicy cashew chicken was really good. Unfortunately, the roast duck ramen was very disappointing. The duck tasted strange, almost like the meat was old and it was quite rubbery and difficult to chew. Based on the other dishes, I know the kitchen can make great food, but the ramen was a major letdown. I would come back for the shrimp and cashew chicken, but I would not order the duck ramen again.

Fish and rolls were fresh and tasty, service was great. They have a couple different options for iced tea which is nice as usually I'm just stuck with whatever they have. The souffle is definetly worth ordering. Unique, light and fluffy and taste amazing! A little different from a French style in that they are an eggier softer texture but they are a wonderful treat! Also something you can't just get anywhere.

Great sushi place. The fish is so fresh you can tell how much care goes into preparing everything. The sushi choices are limited compared to other places, but with the smaller menu they really focus on the quality. Tonight we were surprised to see that have just added soufflés to their dessert menu. To put it simply, we will be stopping in a lot more. If not for a full meal as normal, but even for the perfect dessert after eating somewhere. The mango topped soufflé was that good.

The experience at Yama Sushi was amazing! The servers were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made us feel comfortable right away. The chef did an excellent job, every dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. On top of that, we were pleasantly surprised when the chef gave us a complimentary dish, which made the experience feel even more special. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

Went to Yama Sushi and had such a good experience. We ordered the sizzling spicy garlic chicken, some nigiri sushi, and a couple different rolls, and everything came out really fresh and tasted great. The sizzling chicken had a lot of flavor and was cooked really well, and the sushi was fresh with good portion sizes for the price. I also liked that they had a big variety not just sushi and sashhimi, but hot food options too, so there’s something for everyone. The staff were really friendly and made the whole experience feel welcoming. To top it off, we got the soufflé pancakes for dessert and they were delicious light, fluffy, and a perfect way to end the meal. Definitely feels like you get good value for what you pay. Would come back again.

Yama sushi was fabulous. We got the Golden Gate Bridge plus another roll and it was a perfect amount for two people. The bridge had three big shrimp heads on it and we had never seen that before and they were so nice and let us know how to eat them. Love the attention to detail on the plating and presentation too. Then we were given a free tiramisu to try as well! We will definitely be going back next time we visit Kona.

This place deserves much more love… what a hidden 💎 inside a strip mall. We are big foodies who have been to Tokyo, I was shocked when this no frills sushi spot had Unagi Don on par with what we had in Japan. Also, all of the fish we had was excellent. I would not listen to any of these clowns that gave 1 star reviews and said that everything was frozen haha… they don’t know what they’re talking about. Highly recommend trying it out!

It’s no surprise that the best sushi is found in unassuming places. Yama was incredible. Fresh, generous portions, beautiful presentation - artistry!, prompt service and friendly staff. Would highly recommend!

Stopped here hoping for a quick, light meal, and were so impressed how great it was! The edamame was some of the best we’ve ever had. The rolls were huge and incredibly fresh. The staff was super kind. Great spot, would totally visit again!!

Wow, portions and quality were amazing. It’s not often we need a to-go box for sushi, we can normally put away 4 rolls an a couple appetizers, but this place is superb and we couldn’t finish it all. Luckily we have a fridge. Good parking, not far from Kona town, and the hamachi was SOOOOO tender and buttery it was the best I’ve ever had. Didn’t get any pics of that, but the 3-piece sashimi was HUGE also. Wish I had, you won’t believe me unless you order it! From L-R, Rainbow, caterpillar, and something mango roll. Yama roll was probably my favorite, though they were all good! Great prices for what you get.
