Foster's Kitchen
About
A View of the Kona Coast
Perched above Ali'i Drive, Foster's Kitchen offers one of the most reliable vantage points for sunset watching in Kailua-Kona. The second-story lanai captures the cool trade winds, carrying the scent of salt spray and charred kiawe wood from the kitchen. It is an ideal spot for those looking to trade the busy sidewalk pace for a more elevated, open-air perspective of the bay.
The Philosophy of Freshness
The menu emphasizes a commitment to local sourcing that goes beyond the standard island offering. Chef-driven plates highlight Big Island produce and proteins, with the signature Molokai sweet potato gnocchi and the Kona coffee-rubbed ribeye standing out as frequent crowd favorites. You will notice the difference in the ingredient quality—the greens are crisp, and the flavors are punchy, stripped of unnecessary complication. It is sophisticated comfort food that respects the agricultural bounty of Hawaii.
The Rhythm of the Lanai
While the atmosphere leans into a polished, relaxed vacation vibe, be prepared for a lively room. The acoustic design can get quite energetic during peak evening hours, especially when the cocktail shaker is working overtime behind the bar. Despite the occasional noise, it remains a go-to for travelers wanting a quintessential Big Island dinner that feels both upscale and unpretentious. Grab a drink, settle into a high-top, and watch the cruise ships drift away as the sky shifts from gold to deep violet.

The sorcery had loads of flavor. So happy had room to try it. Would love a gallon of it. I highly recommend this place restaurant!!

Foster’s Kitchen Kona – A Culinary Gem on the Big Island! 🌺 Hands down, one of my favorite restaurants as a vegetarian in all of Big Island. I visited this place thrice in 1 week. Foster’s Kitchen Kona sets the bar with its commitment to fresh, organic ingredients and a menu that blends island flavor with gourmet finesse. Every bite was a burst of freshness—elevating even simple dishes to something unforgettable. The atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant, perfect for soaking in the Kona vibe. Whether you’re grabbing lunch or settling in for dinner with a view, the staff’s warmth makes the experience feel personal and welcoming.

Excellent meal and wonderful service. Rebekah was so knowledgeable and suggested great drinks! The meals were well proportional and tasted fantastic. Make sure you make a reservation the place fills up fast. Great view as well of the sunset. Recommend this place 100%. Update: The food is excellent as always... Great area to sit even in a pandemic. The service is excellent as always and the Thai chicken salad is amazing... delicious! Again recommend this place!

Food, service and ambience were great! Views of the sea and the street adds to the experience. The cajun fish tacos were spot-on. We ordered fresh catch of the day, which was Ono and tasted delicious. After the fish arrived, we saw it wasn’t fully cooked in the center, which they agreed, took back and brought fully cooked and it tasted better than before. The cajun fries were delicious! Overall, it was a good experience and we had a good time. Would recommend this place!

Oh. So. Good. Traveling with Celiac is so challenging and Foster’s Kitchen removed that stress! The food was just delicious and the service was phenomenal! The owner or manager (not sure which) wanted to show me the safety of their kitchen for preparing my food. The kitchen has windows you can look right in at! Thy kitchen was immaculate! The cook was making the delicious fries as I watched. Plenty of choices for someone who has a dietary restriction. The owner/manager was so knowledgeable about it and they have a great protocol. I actually ate here twice during my stay. Darling place!!! It is just adorable down to every detail. Beautiful view.

Definitely the classiest restaurant in the neighborhood! The atmosphere, service, and cleanliness was excellent and the food was exceptional! I’d say this is a chef-driven restaurant, possibly one who’s cooked in New Orleans. We LOVED the cocktails, the pupu’s (appetizers in HI) and our dessert was mind blowing! Our server gave excellent advice to our questions and was clearly head & shoulders above most. We were very impressed and must go back for a full meal! We were feeling extravagant and probably spent more than most would, and it was worth every cent!

I had an exceptional dining experience at this beach-facing restaurant. The mushroom appetizer was a delightful start, bursting with rich flavors and perfectly cooked. The shrimp & grit main course was a symphony of tastes, with succulent shrimp complementing the creamy grits flawlessly. Another main course Ahi tuna served with rice and veggies was a highlight, impeccably seared and served with precision. The stunning view added to the overall ambiance, making it a must try five-star experience

Food was delicious and we cleaned out plates. I had the fish tacos. My husband had fish n chips. His first impression was small fish portion but he was satisfied! The kids had burgers. We needed a hearty meal and this hit the spot. We even had room for cheesecake and it was yummilicious!!

Food here was great. Definitely make a reservation. The views are good. Stuffed chicken and tomato bisque/grilled cheese were exceptional. The bruschetta was good. I probably wouldn't order it again but it was good. I also had the lemonade and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and was quite tart. The service was also good!
