About
A Reliable Stop in the Heart of Kailua-Kona
When you find yourself navigating the busy commercial corridors of Kailua-Kona, this familiar spot on Henry Street offers exactly what you expect: consistency. It serves as a go-to anchor for locals and travelers alike, providing a space where you can grab a Grand Slam breakfast or a late-night burger without the pretension found in resort-heavy areas. The interior keeps things functional, with vinyl booths that have seen thousands of island adventures, and it remains one of the few places in the city where you can order fluffy pancakes long after the sun has dipped below the Pacific horizon.
Coffee Culture and Big Island Convenience
Stepping inside, you are greeted by the hum of the coffee percolator and the rhythmic clatter of plates—a familiar soundtrack for early risers looking to fuel up before a snorkeling trip or a drive toward the saddle. The menu highlights classic American diner staples, from seasoned fries to hearty Moons Over My Hammy sandwiches. While the parking lot can get tight during peak morning rushes, the convenience of being centrally located near the major transit arteries makes it an easy pit stop for groups needing a quick, predictable meal.
Why This Spot Fits Your Kona Schedule
If you prefer a casual atmosphere over high-end dining, this location provides a straightforward experience. It caters perfectly to families with kids who need familiar options, or solo travelers looking to catch up on emails while sipping endless refills of coffee. It is not trying to be a five-star culinary destination; instead, it offers the comforting, salt-of-the-earth sustenance that keeps the Kona community moving throughout the day. Whether you are craving a late-night snack after an event or a sunrise plate of eggs and bacon, the doors remain open, offering a dependable slice of Americana right in the middle of the island's west coast hustle.

We stopped in for breakfast before our manta ray night dive and could not have picked a better place to fuel up. Chelsey was our server and honestly she was a delight from the moment she walked up. Super friendly, knew the menu, kept everything moving smoothly. I also have to say — and I mean this as the highest compliment — she was wearing the cutest pair of jeans that just fit her absolutely perfectly. I leaned over to my husband and whispered that I needed to find that exact pair. She just had that effortless put-together thing going on that made me feel slightly underdressed in my tourist gear. Goals, honestly. We came back that evening after the dive still buzzing and Glen was our night server. Calm, attentive, totally dialed in — exactly what you want when you're running on adrenaline and need someone competent to just handle things. He delivered. Barbara owned the late night shift with that perfect mix of warm and efficient that is genuinely hard to pull off. Never felt rushed, never felt forgotten. Running Bear clearly built a culture here that shows in every single person on that floor. Happy staff, good food, consistent experience across multiple visits. Five stars. The mantas were breathtaking. The service matched them

I’ve been to this location more than a few times usually evenings and the service was decent with a decent wait in food. But today our server Tineil was exceptional to say the least! Polite and friendly and got us everything quickly. It’s hard to find good service nowadays! She checked in with us frequently and made sure we had everything we need. The food was better than usual. This was a pleasant experience and I will not hesitate to

I loved this place and the staff! The owner was there serving coffee himself, and his family working the restaurant as well when the kona low hit and people couldn't get to work. A super friendly gentleman; his restaurant is top notch in my book.

It's Danny's for goodness sake. Just a plate full of processed food. I ordered two eggs overeasy hash browns and a crepe with strawberries and cheese and water. I ate all of it. It's always good when you don't have to cook it yourself and then just get up and go.... no cleaning dishes. Anyway if your hungry then it's great!! Not sure if it's possible for Danny's to have a healthy section on the menu. (Never gonna happen) Any way I ate it and I was full. Service was great. The young lady filled the ice tea my friend was drinking never let go dry.

They were out of my first and second choice. Tried something new, it was ok. Daughter ordered from the kids menu and enjoyed her food.

I had a wonderful experience and ate more than my fill. I took a rather long time so I was a bit nervous I’d make my server mad for taking a seat in her section. But to my delight Chelsy was incredibly sweet and understanding. She never rushed me or made me wait long when I had questions. 5* meal and a wonderful server made this a real treat for my soul!

The service was clear from when we walked in. It took 10 min to get us seated at10pm with the restaurant virtually empty. The waitress couldn’t be bothered to take our order or check in on us. The owner is doing his best to keep the place running but seems that his staff don’t care. The food was good. I liked the taste of the burger patties but it was lacking sauce big time. The steak fries were inconsistent in shape and hence doneness, some bordered on raw. My daughter liked her omelette
