Christine's Deli
About
A Local Staple in the Heart of Kona
When you find yourself navigating the sun-drenched streets of Kailua-Kona, Christine's Deli stands out as the go-to destination for a quick, reliable bite. This is the kind of neighborhood lunch spot where the focus is entirely on the craft of a solid sandwich. The atmosphere is unpretentious and straightforward, perfect for locals grabbing a mid-day meal or visitors looking to escape the tourist traps for a genuine taste of Hawaii's casual dining scene.
The Menu Experience
The deli specializes in hearty, generously portioned sandwiches that make the most of fresh ingredients. You will notice the distinct crunch of fresh lettuce and the savory aroma of quality meats as soon as you step up to the counter. Their reputation is built on consistency; whether you are opting for a classic turkey sub or one of their more localized specialty combinations, the bread-to-filling ratio is always on point. The kitchen operates with an efficient, no-nonsense rhythm, ensuring that your food is prepared exactly how you like it without unnecessary delay.
Know Before You Go
Part of the charm here is the authentic local pace. While the space is inviting and clean, it is worth noting that parking in this busy section of the Big Island can occasionally get tight, especially during the peak lunch hour rush. It is a humble setup, lacking the bells and whistles of high-end establishments, but it wins on flavor and utility. If you are craving a lunch that feels like it was made in your own kitchen—but with better ingredients and none of the cleanup—this deli is a top-tier choice for your Kona itinerary.

My boyfriend and I came in just after 12pm, there was a group of two people ahead of us waiting for their first before we ordered. We ordered two sandwiches. There was one woman in front taking orders and making sandwiches, and it was lunch time so I can totally understand waiting. What I can't understand, however, is how rude she was when we were in the shop. Another woman came out to help after we ordered. We weren't greeted, smiled at, or barely looked at by either workers. Our order was taken and we waited nearly 20 minutes, while we saw a group of three get their sandwiches before us. Again, I can understand there being a lunch rush as there were also to go orders, but I'm not sure why we waited so long and other people ordered and got their food after we ordered. Besides the service, our sandwiches were soggy and the veg (lettuce, tomato, etc) tasted old. Neither of us finished our sandwiches. Super disappointed because the reviews seemed good for this place.

Christine the sandwiches were refreshing, filling and very delicious after a swim at Kealakekua Bay. Mahalo for the donation to Mental Restoration Foundation. Your sandwiches made a big impression, I will make an effort to check your deli in person real soon. I want to try them all. Yummy! Sincerely, Jo Duerksen

Only take away…so this worked out perfectly for our picnic lunch. Highlights were the Rueben and surprisingly the potato salad, both flavorful and well seasoned. Rueben was loaded nicely with pastrami and balanced with sauce. Honorable mention was the Mac salad, loved the addition of crunchy carrots and peppers. Wouldn’t repeat the Italian…I know I know…and the brownie. The Italian had a good deal of meat which was awesome, but almost as if a jar of pepperoncini juice was poured on it, very sour and bread was soggy by the time we arrived beach side for our picnic. The brownie wasn’t sweet at all, and dry…pass on that! 3.75 on overall experience. No aloha love from the employee, but she was all alone trying to keep it all together. Will go back and order the Reuben and Potato salad for sure!

Idk if i like went to a different place or on an off day but i ordered the chicken parm sandwhich and it was prob the worst ive ever had. Being from Boston i was excited to try a chicken parm sandwhich on big island having been here for years and not having one since back home. Lets start with the size, for almost $20 the sub was extremely small. The chicken was incredibly overcooked like a rock and theres no basil to be seen anywhere on this sub....an authentic chicken parm comes with basil, even the sub. Ill prob never come back and i suggest if you want an amazing sandwhich you go to Dawhip sandwhich bar near costco or RC Deli. Both of those places will make you a way better sandwhich then here. So disappointed.

In my humble opinion, the East Coast has the edge when it comes to deli sandwiches. When my wife and I tried Christie’s Deli for the first time, I said, ‘They’ve got to be from the East Coast.’ Hands down, this is the best deli sandwich you can get in Kona. 5⭐️

Just had a sandwich here and I'd have to say it was the best thing I've had to eat in the last week here in Kona. Staff was super friendly and the sandwiches are definitely made with love. Will 100% be back here if we ever visit this island again!

Christine’s Deli is an excellent local spot. They order pastrami and specialty items from the East Coast, and the quality really shows — everything is fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. We’ve used them multiple times for large lunch orders, and the food is always delicious. They’re also wonderfully responsive and easy to work with, which makes a big difference when coordinating group orders. Friendly staff, fair prices, and consistently great service. Highly recommend!

A taste of New York deli on the Big Island. Good prices and fresh sandwiches with homemade sides. Best to order ahead for to-go. My wife and I enjoyed the Reuben, Italian, and a side of potato salad. VERY good food.
