Big Island Pizza Napoletana
About
A Slice of Naples in the Heart of Kailua-Kona
Finding genuine wood-fired pizza in Kailua-Kona can be a challenge, but Big Island Pizza Napoletana brings the authentic craft of Italian pie-making to our tropical shores. The process here is deliberate: the dough undergoes a slow, long-fermentation process, resulting in that signature airy, blistered crust that defines true Napoletana style. When you step inside, the wood-smoke scent hits you immediately, blending with the sound of the crackling oven fire.
The Craft of the Crust
This isn't your typical heavy, greasy slice. The kitchen adheres to traditional methods, using high-quality flour and simple, fresh toppings that highlight the ingredients rather than masking them. The Margherita is a perennial favorite, featuring a bright, tangy San Marzano tomato sauce paired with creamy mozzarella that bubbles perfectly under the intense heat of the wood-burning oven. It is the kind of meal that feels light yet deeply satisfying after a long afternoon snorkeling in the clear Kona waters.
What to Expect on Your Visit
The space carries a laid-back, utilitarian energy that fits the local island pace. It is an ideal spot for those who value substance over frills. Be prepared for a bit of a localized experience; the seating area is intimate, and during the dinner rush, the acoustics can get a bit lively as the kitchen staff works in rhythm with the oven. If you are driving into town from the coast, keep an eye on your turn-off, as the parking lot can get snug during peak tourist hours. Whether you are craving a late-night bite or a casual family dinner, this spot remains a cornerstone for pizza purists visiting the Big Island who demand a blistered, chewy crust that honors its Italian heritage.

The BEST pizza on the big island. Delicious premium ingredients prepared fresh. It is a bit pricey for pizza. Go in with the quality over quantity mindset and you will not be disappointed. Don’t come expecting a cheap meal.

A little out of the way but decent pizza. If you look up the menu online, it is not correct. They only have about seven or eight choices. We wanted the bbq chicken pizza, but not on their menu now. Fairly fast service. When we ordered, we asked to have all of the sausage on one side but they just saved it for themselves. It was a good tasting pizza. They only have an eight and ten inch pizza. Not good if you’re hungry. Also, if you need to go to the bathroom, just grab the key and walk down the sidewalk for about 100 yards.

I ordered 2 12inch pizzas, and didn’t even fill me up, not to mention crust is very thin and very little toppings. I felt completely ripped off and wish I had spent my money elsewhere. Will no be eating here again

Really great pizza in a location that you'd miss if you weren't looking for it. True to Neapolitan Style sauce, crust and cheese. We had a great time and a great meal. Please don't take this as an insult, but the carry-out pizza feel of the location does not do this place justice. The pizza was better than some table service restaurants.

This little place is a delight to discover! Sadly they do not have a gluten-free and or dairy- free option available. It is a pricey little taste of pizza heaven! I could taste that the ingredients are good; it’s very much like the pizza I ate over in some smaller European countries I had the privilege to visit. Pizza crust is thin, sauce not over done, and toppings good. I especially enjoyed the selection of cheeses; I chose the fresh mozzarella, Asiago, and Parmesano. The fresh mozzarella it isn’t shredded so it has a different appearance and taste in my opinion. The garlic bits are perfect in taste and are still fluffy when cool! The 12inch pizza is the biggest option. Over all I say it’s gonna be the rare occasion to Oder food from here due to the price, but an occasion because it is SUCH a delicious pizza! Sorry for photos of the half eaten food, but figured some is better than none! Enjoy if you go.

Best pizza, actually one of the best we have ever had. Crust is thin and delicious, sauce is good and toppings just the right amount. The ceaser salad was really good and had sun dried tomatoes on it. great beer selection and saw some wine too but enjoyed the local Ola beer on tap.

We ate lunch here on a Tuesday in February 2025. This is a smaller restaurant with about 10 tables and 8 chairs at the bar. Menus are next to the cash register and you order there and your food is brought to the table when ready. I really enjoyed the pizza; it was thin crust with a light amount of sauce and just enough toppings. The crust was not soggy and the slice was easy to fold (so you can eat it ny style). We will eat here again!

11/10!! So glad I walked over here from Costco while waiting for my tire install. The garlic knots are a must and I recommend getting the larger sized stone oven pizza. I got the Spicy Arugula. Soooo good! Excellent beer and wine selection as well. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area!

I had the best pizza of my life here. This is not an exaggeration. I'm not familiar with regional differences of Italian pizza. All I know is the pizzas we had here were amazing. The crust is so thin and perfectly crispy. The toppings and base sauces were delicious. The whole pizza had this smoky aroma that is so irresistible. There are also so many different flavours that I had never tried or seen before. We had the spinach pesto with Italian sausage and the spinach caramelized onion pizzas. I could see my order was freshly baked in a wood fire oven and that speaks for itself. The owner was very friendly. Service wouldn't be quick as the pizzas are made fresh. But, it is worth the wait.
