About
Hand-Tossed Traditions in the Heart of the Big Island
When the tropical humidity of the Kona coast starts to weigh heavy, there is a certain comfort in the sharp, garlicky scent of a wood-fired oven. Tucked away within the plaza life of Kailua-Kona, Bianelli's stands as a local cornerstone for those seeking a departure from the typical island fare. The interior doesn't aim for flashy ocean views; instead, it leans into a cozy, unpretentious charm where the clatter of silverware and the rhythmic folding of pizza dough provide the soundtrack.
A Flavor of Italy by the Pacific
This is where tradition meets the Pacific. While the menu spans a wide range of Mediterranean classics, the star remains their signature thin-crust pizza. The crust strikes that difficult balance—crisp enough to hold a fold, yet chewy enough to remind you it was hand-tossed just minutes prior. Their house-made marinara carries a bright, acidic punch, standing up well against the heavy layers of molten mozzarella. If you are venturing beyond the pizza oven, the lasagna is a dense, bubbling affair that arrives at the table practically humming with heat.
The Local Observer's Take
Expect a relaxed pace. This isn't the place for a rushed pre-show meal; it’s a spot to settle in, crack open a bottle of wine, and lean into the hum of local conversation. Be mindful that during peak dinner hours, the parking lot in the Keauhou Shopping Center can become a bit of a localized puzzle, so leave yourself a few extra minutes to navigate the transition from island highway to dining table. Whether you are a resident winding down after a long work week or a visitor craving a hearty meal that feels like an old-school neighborhood haunt, Bianelli's provides a steady, reliable anchor in the ever-changing landscape of Big Island dining.

The Pizza was amazing! But, the pasta we ordered was just ok, I guess! Overall, we had a good experience!

I LOVE their pizza! Might be some of the best i’ve ever had. The cheesy garlic bread is also a must try, it’s amazing!

Our large family ate here twice on our 6-day vacation and loved it. We sat outside for dinner and had great waitresses both times. My wife and I had veggie and margherita pizzas and were very pleased! Atmosphere was great both times. Once there was a musical group performing in the nearby square with some hula dancing that made the night even more memorable.

We ordered to go but very friendly and seating inside and out. Pizza was great. The mushroom pasta was good too.

All the bad reviews I refuse to believe are true. My partner and I got a deep dish cheese pizza and added a bunch of toppings along with the garlic cheesy breads and we both agreed this is one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had in our lives. The food, service and everything was unreal. As tourists it can be difficult to find truly good gems - this is one people shouldn’t miss out on!

I ordered takeout from this spot, and one thing to note right away is that the menus posted in photos online are outdated. It’s better to visit in person to check out the current offerings. They do have a few vegetarian options, and the pastas can be customized to leave out the meat. The pizza was decent, but the pasta leaned a bit too sweet and felt overly heavy, which made it hard to enjoy. On the bright side, service was quick and efficient. Overall, it’s an okay Italian place—nothing exceptional, but it gets the job done.

Decided to order pizza to go for an easy first night in Kona after lots of travel. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the pizza here came out, though there weren’t too many places to choose from without driving far out and this once was highly recommended by multiple sources. I got a half rooster, half garden island pizza and loved the combination. The crust was doughy, yet crispy, unlike the stereotypical undercooked Papa Johns. The BBQ chicken and artichoke side by side was delicious and I appreciated how many vegetables were actually on it, not just a bunch of olives and peppers.

Fours all across the board. Food was decent, could be better. I feel like they specialize in their pizza and dough offered products and that their pastas were just very mediocre. We weren't unhappy at all just an honest opinion. I would definitely go back, so nothing to complain about. Service was good. Atmosphere was a little bit loud and busy but I guess it is what is to be expected being as it is in the middle of a shopping center with other bars, restaurants and stores around. All and all it was good.
