Hamakua Living
About
A Slice of Honokaa Life
Walking into Hamakua Living feels less like entering a retail shop and more like stopping by a neighbor's kitchen in the heart of Honokaa town. This space functions as a community touchpoint, celebrating the rugged, verdant beauty of the Hamakua Coast through thoughtfully curated local products and casual bites.
The Flavor of the Coast
The menu highlights the agricultural bounty that makes this region unique. You will find fresh offerings centered around locally sourced macadamia nuts and tropical fruits, showcasing the intense, sun-drenched flavors that only this stretch of the Big Island can produce. The coffee here carries a deep, volcanic soil richness, served in a no-frills setting that encourages lingering while the misty Hilo-side rains pass through.
Atmosphere and Local Nuance
The interior maintains an airy, plantation-era aesthetic that echoes the history of the sugar cane industry once prevalent in this area. It is the kind of place where the staff remembers your preference before you even order. One thing to keep in mind: space is compact, so during peak hours, it can get quite cozy, and parking on the main road requires a bit of maneuvering during the afternoon rush. It is perfect for those who want to skip the tourist traps and experience the genuine, slow-paced rhythm of island life. Whether you are grabbing a quick fuel-up before heading toward Waipio Valley or just looking to spend a quiet hour browsing unique goods, this spot captures the authentic spirit of Honokaa perfectly.

One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. The lady behind the counter was very nice, and this place knows how to do gravy and rice right. 🍚 …
