Veg Out
About
A Maui Landmark for Plant-Based Comfort
Perched on the windward side of Maui in the heart of Haiku, Veg Out has become a reliable staple for those craving hearty, meat-free meals after a long day of exploring the North Shore. The open-air setup captures the island breeze, carrying the faint scent of tropical rain and freshly prepared stir-fry through the dining area.
Menu Staples and Local Flavor
This isn't your typical light-as-air health food stop. The kitchen specializes in substantial portions that actually satisfy. Their signature tofu stir-fries are packed with crisp, locally sourced vegetables, and the tempeh dishes provide a deep, savory punch that keeps the local surfing crowd coming back. If you are craving something handheld, the vegetarian burgers hold their own against any traditional patty found on the island.
What to Expect
Expect a casual, no-frills experience. You walk up to the counter, place your order, and find a seat among the communal-style tables. It is common to see patrons dripping in saltwater or dusty from mountain bike trails, which is part of the charm. Be aware that during the lunch rush, finding a parking spot in the small lot can feel like a game of musical chairs, and the noise levels rise as the space fills with hungry travelers and residents alike. It’s loud, it’s bustling, and it feels like the authentic Haiku experience.
Whether you are refueling before heading down the Road to Hana or just looking for a solid, honest meal in the Upcountry region, Veg Out serves as the perfect low-key fuel station. It is built for the hungry soul who prioritizes flavor and substance over polished white-tablecloth service.

We had lunch at Veg Out today and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The falafel wrap was very good, nice balance of the falafel and veggies, and a light but tasty sauce for it. My wife enjoyed her"steak" sandwich and commented how good the bread was. We look forward to going back and trying the muffaletta.

Looks like a vegan/vegetarian place on the road to somewhere remote. The food was pretty good. I had a greek salad minus the feta, and husband and I had the Pad Thai. I don’t usually have Pad Thai because of the fish sauce but I think this one didn’t have that as my husband confirmed. He always gets a Pad Thai every Thai place we go. This one passed the test for him. We also ordered the Falafel wrap to go. First place we’ve found where the food wasn’t killer expensive.

This is the place to go for an excellent -relatively quick- meal that your body wont regret later. Sporting a completely vegetarian menu Veg Out brings a variety of dishes to table from Mediterranean to Mexican options. The staff seems to be small, as I am often greeted by a friendly familiar face each time I visit. I love coming here! Veg Out always provide consistent and delicious meals- the burrito being one of my favorite and the burger taking a close second. This humble little spot is sure to leave you feeling full, and satisfied.

This place was a little bit far from where I stayed in Maui but let me tell you that it worth the visit! I came twice within a week and tried different meals. I highly recommend to try the pad Thai and the pizza, both are vegan. Moreover, the smoothie is delicious. Find more pictures on my IG (kelledstyle) ;-)
