Jaws Country Store
About
An Essential Stop on the Road to Hana
Before you commit to the winding jungle roads of East Maui, Jaws Country Store acts as the unofficial gatekeeper of Haiku. This isn't your polished resort cafe; it’s a rugged, functional space that captures the restless energy of North Shore surfing culture. You’ll hear the hum of local conversation mixing with the clatter of gear as surfers and travelers gear up for the day.
Fuel for the Jungle Trek
The menu leans heavily into practicality and local flavor. Their coffee is strong—often essential for the early morning drive—and the house-made baked goods are consistently fresh. Known for a rotating selection of hearty sandwiches and local snacks, the kitchen focuses on items that travel well. It is a favorite for those heading toward the Peahi surf break, offering a reliable point of supplies in an area where convenience is a premium.
The Haiku Local Pulse
Stepping inside, you are greeted by wooden shelving stocked with everything from surf wax to local artisan crafts. The lighting is bright and industrial, reflecting the practical nature of a true country store. One minor reality check for visitors: the parking lot can get tight during peak morning hours when the surf is up, so keep your eyes peeled for maneuvering vehicles. If you appreciate a spot that prioritizes raw, local personality over tourist-centric gloss, this is where you stop to sync up with the Maui rhythm.

Such a great spot for a nice coffee and meal. Breakfast and lunch menus including a nice selection of pizza. I ordered the chicken empanada (so tasty), and an iced coffee. The store has loads of locally produced items, as well as snacks and cold drinks. Add it to your "cool places to visit" list. A beautiful drive is the bonus!

Very nice people work here. I ordered a Turkey BLT, which did not look like the picture on the menu, mainly because it was some kind of pizza dough, or pita bread, which I hate.

Jaws Country Store is such a great little spot! We stopped here probably three times during our time in Maui. Food is excellent (sandwiches are enormous - try the Milanesa!). Fresh smoothies and well-crafted coffee drinks were a highlight as well. Staff is super friendly. Perfect spot for lunch if you’re making your way to Hana. (Added bonus: two store kitties that will want some pets from you.)

This was our first stop on the road to Hana. There is a food counter and a cute store with the sweetest cat greeter. We both got the breakfast sandwich and some chai lattes which were very good. The shop attendant and the food counter person were both so friendly and helpful. Really beautiful landscaping with lots of pretty plants and flowers, too. A good stop if you’re starting early in the morning on the road to Hana and want to grab breakfast
