About
Cantonese Comforts in the Heart of Ewa Beach
Finding a reliable spot for dim sum and roasted meats in the Leeward side of Oahu often leads locals to Taste of Hong Kong. This casual eatery serves as a neighborhood hub for those craving traditional Cantonese flavors without the trek into downtown Honolulu. When you walk through the doors, the immediate scent of ginger, scallions, and savory soy-braised meats sets the stage for a no-frills, hearty meal.
The Kitchen’s Focus
The menu leans heavily into Cantonese staples. Regulars frequently order the roast duck, which arrives with skin that maintains a distinct, savory crispness, balanced by tender, succulent meat underneath. The ginger scallion chicken is another staple, prepared with a simplicity that lets the aromatics take center stage. For those visiting during lunch, the selection of steamed dumplings offers a quick, satisfying bite that hits the spot when you need a break from the Ewa Beach heat.
What to Expect
The atmosphere is functional and straightforward, catering primarily to families and locals grabbing a quick lunch or a takeout dinner to enjoy at home. Don't expect white tablecloths here; the charm of this establishment lies in its utilitarian approach to high-quality cooking. One thing to keep in mind: during peak weekend hours, the small parking lot can get a bit congested as people cycle in and out, so a little patience is helpful when maneuvering. It is the perfect stop for a relaxed, flavor-forward meal that prioritizes taste over formalities.

The food was okay. We didn’t think it was authentic. The Hong Kong roast pork and the clam stir fried in black bean sauce were hard and chewy. The wonton mien broth was bland. The wonton could be better. The noodle was cooked well. The clam dish was overpriced and not fresh. A third of the dish were just empty shells. Ong choy in garlic sauce tasted the best and that was still pretty mediocre in our opinion. Would go somewhere else for more authentic taste. On the bright side the service was good. We just didn’t think the food meet our taste buds.

Gave two stars because the cashier was super sweet and food presentation looked great! I was craving noodles and orange chicken and wanted to take a chance with a smaller restaurant as opposed to going to Panda Express. The portion and presentation looked great for the price. I wish I listened to the other ratings as the noodle in fact were flavorless and tasted like wet spaghetti noodles in water. The orange chicken did not taste like orange at all. It was more of a sugar sauce. The chicken quality is also questionable after biting into it. I really wanted to enjoy this but the majority of it did not get eaten. I can’t speak on other food items but I don’t believe I’ll go back to try....
