Shiro's Saimin Haven (91-919 Fort Weaver Rd)
About
A Legacy of Noodles in Ewa Beach
For decades, Shiro's Saimin Haven has been a cornerstone of local culture in Ewa Beach. Originally established by the late Franz Shiro Matsuo, this institution is less about fancy presentation and more about preserving a specific style of Hawaiian soul food. The interior feels like a time capsule, with simple booths and the constant, rhythmic clatter of bowls moving from the kitchen to the dining room.
The Art of the Bowl
The menu is famous for its sprawling variety—the restaurant once held a record for the most varieties of saimin in the world. Whether you go for the classic broth topped with char siu, fish cake, and Spam, or opt for one of their more adventurous noodle combinations, the experience is consistently hearty. Expect the scent of dashi broth and grilled meats to hit you the moment you walk through the door. It is the kind of place where locals linger over their broth, often accompanied by a side of crispy wontons or barbecue chicken skewers.
What to Expect
If you are planning a visit, be prepared for the pace of a true neighborhood staple. It can get busy during lunch hours, and the parking lot shared with the surrounding plaza often fills up quickly, requiring a bit of patience. The acoustics are lively and unpretentious; don't expect a quiet, romantic corner. Instead, come here when you want an authentic, no-frills meal that captures the true flavor of West Oahu. It remains a mandatory stop for anyone looking to understand the casual, comfort-driven dining habits that define the community here.

spent about $50 total for 2 people. Receipt is attached of first order, not shown is my $8 maki roll. We got 2 burgers (double cheese burger deluxe & groovy), made both into a large combo that came with fries & a drink which was +$12 for both. Plus a $7 mac salad. Mac salad wasn’t anything special and theirs is made with spaghetti kine noodles. Burgers and fries weren’t special either, burgers clearly tasted homemade so that was nice. And the bun was nice and soft. The veggies and sauce tasted like they’ve been sitting in the fridge.. old & soggy. Definitely want to give this place another chance food wise & maybe try their fried rice pork adobo omelette.

Stopped by Ewa Beach Shiro’s and got a Maki roll for my lunch. Paid about $8. When I opened the wrapper, I couldn’t believe what I saw, 85% rice and 15% filling. After work I went back to Shiro’s and asked if they made a mistake making the roll and one of the workers said no, that is how they make them now and also mentioned that restaurant is getting stingy with the food. I been eating here for over 20 years but will sadly chose to eat elsewhere with better value.

After dropping off mail at the post office, we decided to stop and get some breakfast. Decided on getting adobo fried rice omelet. It was onolicious and tasted just like my mom’s adobo recipe! We additionally got some come sushi to grind later in the day!

We stopped for an early lunch 10:30. We had chicken cutlet ( very crispy) ,mashed potatoes with gravy all over, The Ron Mizustani Saimin with won tons, vegetables, comes with cheeseburger and we ordered fries on the side. Everything was perfect and hit the spot. The menu is huge and everything is great! Definitely recommend and will be back.

Tried out their breaded boneless chicken with gravy… I was tasting the old frying oil from the chicken and even the chicken was not tasty at all. Gravy was just ok.. They posted on their menu that the make the gravy old traditional way but it was nothing like that and doesn’t even taste close to that… So i’ll not like to go to this place again. Only “pro” is that the service & staff were good.

I ate here many years ago and returned with the ohana (family) to share Oahu's best Saimin! The same friendly staff as 15 years ago and the food is still just as delicious as it was the first time. Avoid the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and take a trip to Shiro's, it is worth it, I promise!

The food wasn’t all that great. The service was horrible. The waitress keep on messing on the drinks and our food. We had a group of 7 people and didn’t get half of our orders right. One asked for no green onions but had green onions in his food and the receipt stated no green onions. My hubby’s shrimp tempura was more like battered shrimp and was not cooked so they took it back and got another one but then he said it was nasty and stopped eating it. It was a waste of money. He normally don’t let food go to waste but it was so nasty that he could not even eat it. He said it was nasty. The battered shrimp was small size but made it look bigger with more batter. My crispy gau gee was very small and had no flavor and the wonton also no flavor. The soup was more like salt. I paid cash in case they mess up on the credit card. I don’t think I will come back here again.
