Restaurant Tombo
About
A Slice of Japan in the Heart of Ewa Beach
Stepping into Restaurant Tombo feels like ducking into a quiet neighborhood eatery in Osaka. The air is consistently thick with the savory, comforting scent of dashi broth and the sizzle of expertly prepared proteins. This local favorite has built a loyal following among Ewa Beach residents who crave authenticity over pretense. It isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; instead, you get sturdy wooden tables, the gentle clatter of ceramic bowls, and the hum of a community gathering over steaming bowls of udon.
The Art of the Bowl
The kitchen leans heavily into traditional preparation methods. Their signature udon dishes serve as the main attraction, featuring handmade noodles that hold a satisfying, chewy bite. Whether you prefer your broth clear and delicate or rich with soy-based depth, the flavor profiles remain grounded in Japanese heritage. The tempura is notably crisp, arriving at your table piping hot without that heavy, oily residue often found elsewhere. Be prepared for a tight parking situation, as this spot is a well-kept secret that fills up quickly during the lunch rush.
Why Choose Tombo?
If you find yourself navigating the western reaches of the island, this is the spot to recharge. It attracts a mix of families seeking a wholesome meal and solo diners looking for a reliable, quiet corner to eat. The interior remains modest, allowing the focus to stay entirely on the freshness of the ingredients. Expect a casual, no-frills environment where the chef prioritizes consistent quality. It serves as a perfect stop for those who value genuine, unpretentious cooking that reflects the soul of Japanese comfort food within our local West Oahu community.

A beautiful restaurant in Ewa Beach. I had the the Korean fried chicken plate. It comes with Rice and Mac salad. Good portions of all three. Tasty sauce and great presentation. A hidden jewel in Ewa Beach. Beautiful views of the ocean and golf course. Fast and friendly service. A good variety of food offerings. Go check it out. Went back and had the Thai Chili chicken. Delicious. Good portions. The restaurant is being renovated so you have to go to the banquet Lanai on the first floor. Still a good place to eat in Ewa Beach.

I played golf at 360° Ewa Beach C.C. with a couple of friends, and after the round we had lunch in the restaurant on the 2nd floor of the clubhouse … Restaurant Tombo. I had my usual Furikake Ahi Salad ($18), a nice piece of seared ahi over mixed greens, onions, carrots, beansprouts, with wasabi soy dressing, topped with furikake and drizzled aioli atop the sliced ahi. Another had Quesadilla with chicken ($17.50), while our third had a Pastrami Sandwich with fries ($17). The food is delicious and comes out quickly. Service is great and the prices are reasonable (to me). We get out to this course a half dozen times a year … Restaurant Tombo is a “must do”. Now, if they would only open early and serve breakfast, that would make the experience at 360° Ewa Beach C.C. so much better.

Tombo is surprisingly great. Yes, you get the benefit of typically being dined at right after a game of golf in a beautiful course. And yes, typically the post-golf beer and food can seldom go wrong. But Tombo hits it out of the park in many ways. The food is excellent. It's not gaudy. It's not flamboyant. But it is cooked and seasoned heartily. It's made with dedication and they don't cut corners. Fresh ingredients. Put together well. And most importantly, very reasonably priced, more so considering Hawaiian standards. If only did Tombo invest in a bit of interior decor, I really think they could've nailed a solid 5 stars and garnered more fame and pricing. But Tombo chooses to run it like a cafeteria which is a bit disappointing. Even so, the quality of food you get for the price is simply unparalleled in Hawaii. Ewa golfing is great. But it is enhanced by Tombo. If you're around the area, do stop by.
