Frida's Hawaii
About
A Bold Taste of Mexico on the Ewa Plains
Walking into Frida's Hawaii feels like a sudden departure from the typical Ewa Beach strip mall landscape. The interior leans into its namesake, with vibrant artistic flourishes that brighten the room, mirroring the punchy, high-acid profile of their menu. This is a spot for those who crave authentic heat and textures rather than the watered-down versions often found in island quick-service joints.
What’s Cooking
The kitchen leans hard into traditional preparation methods. You will find house-made tortillas that carry the distinct, nutty aroma of toasted corn, providing a sturdy base for their slow-braised carnitas. The al pastor is a standout here, sliced thin and charred to order with just enough pineapple sweetness to cut through the spice of their house-made salsas. It is the kind of place where you can smell the cumin and roasted chiles from the sidewalk before you even touch the door handle.
The Local Experience
While the flavors are top-tier, come prepared for a casual, no-frills environment. Service is personal, often moving at a pace that reflects the relaxed lifestyle of West Oahu. It can get a bit crowded during the lunch rush when the local Ewa Beach workforce descends, so if you are looking for a quiet, intimate dinner, consider swinging by during the late afternoon. Parking in the surrounding lot can be a game of Tetris on weekends, but the payoff—a perfectly seasoned, authentic taco plate—makes the minor frustration worth the effort. It is an ideal stop for residents looking to upgrade their weekly taco night without trekking into town.

Food was on point! Great little spot with authentic taste and fresh ingredients. My Wife (Mexican) and I have been looking for a local spot with great Mexican food. Having grown up most my life in South Texas, I'm usually very picky about Mexican or Tex-Mex food. This place was really good. If I had to pick on this to improve on, it would be to salt the chips. Suggestion for a new item: I would love if carne guisada could make it to the menu. I grew up eating toasted torta with fresh avocado, lettuce, tomato, and carne guisada with the gravy spilling out of the sandwich.

The food tasted like authentic, homemade Mexican dishes that reminded me of my grandma’s cooking growing up. This place truly felt like home. The service was wonderful, and both the waitress and the owner were kind and welcoming. And the horchata was the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!
