Bird of Paradise
About
A in the Ewa Plains
Stepping into Bird of Paradise, you immediately notice the unpretentious, laid-back character that defines the Ewa Beach dining scene. This is not a place for white-tablecloth pretense; it is where the locals gather to enjoy generous portions of classic Hawaiian comfort food. The air carries the distinct, savory scent of slow-cooked meats, and the hum of conversation creates an authentic, lived-in energy that makes you feel like you have stumbled upon a neighborhood secret.
Island Comforts on the Plate
The menu leans heavily into local favorites, with their take on traditional plate lunches being the standout. Expect mountain-high servings of kalua pork and lau lau, prepared with a level of care that reflects deep-rooted island culinary traditions. The flavors are straightforward and bold—exactly what you want after a long day in the sun near the Leeward Coast. While the dining room might get a bit boisterous during the lunch rush, the warmth of the staff compensates for any temporary lack of seating.
Why You Should Visit
Bird of Paradise is the quintessential spot for those who value substance over style. Whether you are refueling after a round of golf at the nearby Ewa Beach Golf Club or simply looking for an honest, satisfying meal that won't break the bank, this establishment delivers consistent results. Parking can occasionally be a bit of a puzzle given the popularity of the surrounding plaza, so keep that in mind when planning your arrival. It remains a reliable destination for anyone craving a genuine slice of O‘ahu’s local food culture.

I recently dined at Bird of Paradise Restaurant, and overall it was a pleasant and relaxing dining experience on the west side of Oahu. Located within the Hoakalei Country Club area, the restaurant benefits from a scenic setting that immediately sets a calm tone for the meal. The views of the golf course create an open and peaceful environment that feels slightly removed from the busier parts of Ewa Beach. Large windows allow natural light to fill the dining room, which adds to the comfortable atmosphere and makes the surrounding greenery feel like part of the experience. The dining space itself has a clean, modern island aesthetic with a layout that feels spacious and welcoming. It is the kind of environment that works well for a casual lunch, relaxed dinner, or small gathering with friends or family. The restaurant strikes a good balance between casual and polished without feeling overly formal. The menu focuses on approachable island-inspired dishes and familiar comfort foods. The seafood options stood out, highlighting the freshness that you would expect from a restaurant in Hawaii. The kitchen appears to emphasize simple preparation and balanced flavors rather than overly complicated techniques, which works well for the style of food being served. Portions were satisfying, and the presentation was neat and appealing without trying to be overly elaborate. Service throughout the meal was friendly and attentive. The staff checked in regularly and maintained a welcoming attitude that made the experience comfortable. While the service felt relaxed rather than highly formal, it matched the casual resort-style atmosphere of the restaurant and contributed to an easygoing dining experience. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the visit was the setting itself. Dining with open views of the golf course adds a sense of space and tranquility that enhances the meal. It is the type of environment where guests can comfortably take their time and enjoy the surroundings while eating. Overall, Bird of Paradise Restaurant delivers a solid and enjoyable dining experience with good food, friendly service, and a scenic location that enhances the atmosphere. While it may not aim for fine dining complexity, it succeeds in offering reliable island-style cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

The food is great, the wait service too. My sole quibble is the slow delivery of food coming out from the kitchen. Oh well, more time for refreshments.

This place is a true gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was just as impressive. Every dish was bursting with fresh flavors, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. We were genuinely surprised at how reasonable the prices were for such high-quality food. It’s a wonderful dining experience that offers fantastic value for money. We will absolutely be back.

For the price, one of the best deals outside of Waikiki/downtown. Food was fresh and hot. Staff constantly refilling low items. The staff was fun and not as stuffy as some places. Very accommodating friendly and quick with your order. Most definitely need to go back

We went to celebrate a 21st birthday and it was all so exceptional. Service was so quick from getting us seated, and there was quite a few of us, to collecting the done plates, as well as anything else we asked they delivered. The food was delicious and the crab legs you can't make it up because it just kept coming. Very clean establishment even with the many parties that were there it all flowed so wonderfully. Thank you for making it a special brunch!
