Spicy Ahi & BBQ
About
Island-Style Comfort in the Heart of Pearl City
When you find yourself craving a quick, authentic plate lunch while navigating the busy thoroughfares of Pearl City, Spicy Ahi & BBQ offers a reliable reprieve. This no-frills kitchen focuses on the essentials: smoky, grilled proteins and fresh, high-quality seafood that captures the casual spirit of O‘ahu dining.
Signature Bites and Local Favorites
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the spicy ahi. It is prepared with a clean, punchy heat that highlights the freshness of the fish rather than masking it under heavy sauces. Pair that with their classic BBQ chicken—char-grilled to achieve that specific, slightly charred skin that locals expect—and you have a balanced meal that hits the spot. The portion sizes are generous, often requiring you to balance the styrofoam container carefully as you head back to your car.
The Experience
Don't expect white tablecloths here. The atmosphere is functional and energetic, filled with the sound of sizzling grills and the hum of nearby traffic. It is an ideal stop for those on a lunch break or anyone seeking a grab-and-go meal that feels like it was cooked in a local home kitchen. While the parking lot can get a bit cramped during the midday rush, the reward is a satisfying, honest meal that feels quintessentially Hawaiian. The scent of sweet, savory glaze hitting the flame greets you before you even step through the door, setting the tone for a hearty, straightforward dining experience.

The spicy ahi is really on point. A little kick to it and great with rice. The fried oysters are the best I've come across on the island. At least when I got them they were super fresh, juicy, and nice batter crunch. The tempura is good but by the time you get take out home it's mostly soggy. The dipping sauces are all so ono. The mochiko chicken sits a bit on the sweet side which I don't mind but some folks might not care for it. Overall excellent and usually a top choice for this area.

I find myself here usually once a week getting my fix for some fantastic Japanese food. Every menu item I've tried has been absolutely phenomenal and there's such a great variety, there's something for everyone. Notably, the tempura here is the best I've had on the entire island island. The spicy ahi is also of a quality that makes it worth of being their namesake. I could talk on and on about so many items on the menu but honestly, this is somewhere you should experience for yourself. You won't regret it. 🤙

Nice Japanese restaurant, clean and simplly designed. Surprisingly good food, the tempura was light and crispy. The Teriyaki steak was a steak and not just pieces of beef. The udon was just as good as Jimbo's too! The two item combo is $17.00 as of 08/20/2016 and is a bargain for the amount of food that is given. They bring out a bowl of rice that is only half which you can have refilled if you are hungry. I get it because I can imagine how much rice is thrown away each week. I will definitely go back and maybe share my meal.
