About
A Morning Ritual in Pearl City
Stepping into Button Up Cafe feels like finding a neighborhood secret tucked away in the heart of Pearl City. The space is modest, often buzzing with the clatter of silverware and the cheerful hum of locals fueling up before a busy day. If you arrive during the weekend rush, expect a short wait outside, but the scent of crispy, golden-brown waffles wafting toward the sidewalk makes the standing time well worth it.
The Signature Sweet and Savory
Known for elevated comfort food, the kitchen excels at turning breakfast staples into indulgent experiences. The Red Velvet Waffles are an absolute local favorite, arriving at the table vibrant in color and topped with a generous, cloud-like dollop of cream cheese whipped topping. For those leaning toward the savory side, the Mochi Waffles provide a satisfying chew that pairs perfectly with their house-made syrups. The chefs here clearly prioritize texture, ensuring every bite has that essential balance of crunch and fluff.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
This isn't a place for hushed business meetings; it is a lively, high-energy spot where the servers move with purpose and the coffee flows freely. It is the ideal destination for anyone craving a hearty brunch that feels homemade but technically refined. While the parking lot can get a bit congested during peak hours, navigating the tight spaces is a small price to pay for a plate of their signature fried chicken and waffles. Whether you are catching up with friends or starting your weekend on a high note, this Pearl City staple delivers consistent, high-quality Hawaiian brunch culture without the pretension.

Button Up Cafe My first dining experience in Hawaiʻi was a memorable one! As we arrived, the first thing that we saw was the chef chasing a rooster away from the front door! You’ve got to love the island charm. Talk about fresh poultry! The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Stuffed French Toast and the Loco Moco with Braised Short Ribs, and both dishes were outstanding. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was served fresh and hot. This is a local spot, not a fancy restaurant, but that’s part of its appeal. The atmosphere was welcoming, the operation seemed well-organized, and everything appeared clean and well-maintained. If you’re looking for great local food and a genuine Hawaiʻi experience, Button Up Cafe is definitely worth a visit!

Nice chill spot. They are known for the French toast but I had to get some real breakfast after a long flight back home from Japan. Had a little wait because the place is kinda small and it can get busy. You sit down look at the menu and order your food from the counter. Took a few minutes but the food came out nice and hot! A lot of food for the price and very tasty.

The food was amazing! The establishment is small and unassuming, but they delivered a better culinary experience than much larger and more expensive restaurants. We highly recommend the stuffed French toast. The Ube Cheesecake was especially good as other reviews have stated. One word of caution if you intend to dine-in, be prepared to wait as seating is very limited.
