Mariachi's Mexican Cuisine
About
A Slice of Mexico in the Heart of Kauai
When you find yourself craving bold, zesty flavors amidst the tropical breeze of Lihue, Mariachi's Mexican Cuisine offers a reliable local escape. This spot brings a straightforward approach to classic cantina staples, focusing on hearty portions that satisfy after a long day of exploring Kauai’s eastern coastline.
What’s Cooking
The menu leans heavily into comfort classics. You will find standard offerings like sizzling fajita platters that arrive at your table with a heavy, savory aroma of sautéed peppers and onions. If you are looking for a quick bite, their tacos are assembled with precision, and the chips and salsa provide the essential crunch that defines a casual Mexican outing. Expect a menu that prioritizes tradition—think slow-simmered beans and well-seasoned rice that anchor every plate.
The Atmosphere
Stepping inside, the space feels like a neighborhood haunt where the regulars know exactly what they want. It is informal and unpretentious, making it a solid choice for families or groups looking for an easy-going dinner. Be mindful that during the dinner rush, the acoustics can get quite lively, so it is better suited for a high-energy group meal than an intimate, quiet conversation. Parking in the surrounding Lihue district can be a bit of a dance, so plan to circle the block once or twice before snagging a spot.
Why Dine Here?
If you are tired of the resort dining prices and want a meal that feels like it came from a family kitchen rather than a corporate test kitchen, this is your destination. It is the kind of place where the service is efficient, the plates are hot, and the focus remains entirely on providing a satisfying, salt-and-lime-forward experience that cuts through the humidity of the islands.

They were super friendly and accommodating. They cooked up the fish so deliciously and the margaritas hit the spot too. 10/10 recommend!

Mariachi’s is hands-down the best value restaurant around Kalapaki Beach. The food is genuinely awesome, the service is friendly and attentive, and the portions deliver excellent bang for your buck. If you’re staying at the Royal Sonesta, skip the hotel dining and take the quick walk across the street instead. You’ll save money and enjoy much better food—it’s a no-brainer! Highly recommend. 🌮

Our favorite Mexican breakfast! We stayed at the Sonesta across the street, and walked here for breakfast at least 3x. Opens early at 8am, patio seating with a view, and the food is delicious. Our server was Leticia and she was wonderful, attentive and remembered our order each time. Food came out just right. 👌🏻

This place deserves more than a 4.1. Anyone that left less than a 3 star was probably already hating their life before they got to the restaurant and took it out on them. The fajitas were well seasoned. The camarones à la diabla were so flavorful. The service was top notch, they never let me water get half way. Highly recommend this place when you are on Kauai. PS. Nice views from the patio

Food & margaritas were good. Service was fantastic & the outdoor seating was great. There is a nice view from the balcony tables, with some decent people watching below. Worth noting, they were playing great music. I’ll stop by the next time I’m on island.

Finding good Mexican food on Kauai was a pleasant surprise! The portions were huge, food was very fresh and satisfying. I got the mahi mahi + shrimp chimichanga and it was stuffed with sooo much fresh seafood! Beans and rice were fresh and well seasoned and was happy to get a side of guacamole with it all too. Can’t beat a 22oz beer option as well!!

Food was great! Ordered the mahi taco salad and the kids nachos and both were great! Also had the fried ice cream! Delish! Super fun atmosphere as well! Good walking distance to other things and right by the beach where all the surfers are!

Pretty typical American Mexican restaurant. Food was good and served fast. The chips were thicker than I am accustomed to but we're tasty. I am sure there are better food options on Kauai but if you have a hankering for American Mexican with a good atmosphere, Mariachi's is the place to go.

We traveled all the way from Texas and somehow ended up here. It wasn't a bad place to end up. The food was good, the drinks were cold and tasty and the service was great.
