Mahiko Lounge
About
Savoring Kauai’s Sunset Rituals
Positioned right along the breezy waterfront in Lihue, Mahiko Lounge captures the essence of a relaxed island evening. You won’t find a stiffer atmosphere here; instead, the space hums with the low murmur of travelers and locals sharing stories over chilled glasses. The open-air design invites the scent of salt air to mingle with the aroma of freshly seared island fish, creating a sensory backdrop that feels unmistakably Hawaiian.
The Culinary Focus
The kitchen leans heavily into local provenance, focusing on seasonal ingredients sourced from the Garden Isle. Their signature approach to pupus turns happy hour into a legitimate meal. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before a flight or settling in for an evening of craft cocktails, the menu prioritizes freshness over flash. Expect clean, vibrant flavors—think poke bowls built with line-caught ahi or lightly charred local vegetables that highlight the volcanic soil of Kauai.
What to Expect
This is the spot for those who prefer their evenings unhurried. Because of its proximity to the airport, there is a recurring, rhythmic energy as guests arrive and depart, lending the lounge a transient, global feel. If you plan on snagging one of the prime tables overlooking the ocean, try to arrive well before golden hour. The parking lot can fill up quickly during peak sunsets, so a bit of patience is part of the local ritual. It is an ideal anchor for anyone looking to transition into island time with a drink in hand and the Pacific horizon in full view.

My friend and I had just spent time with our families on the Kauai Plantation Railway and we decided to head over to the lounge for an adult beverage. We both had Mai Tais and they were really very good. Our bartender was great and took good care of us. The lounge was cool because it feels like you stepped back in time. Once our families caught up to us we moved to the outside patio which has a little more of a modern feel which opened up to an open grassy area where the kids ran around and played. The Mai Tais were so good that we came back two days later for round 2. If you want a great Mai Tai and a nice spot to chill and relax, this is your spot.

This is a great opportunity for training - it is not the customers job to know about your bar We actually pulled in because we were lost and were amazed with what we found. We walked in around 445 maybe a little after, looking at the cool art and sat down at the bar, picked up a Happy Hour menu that said until 5. What luck! Waited 2-3 minutes and the bartender nodded in our direction, I’ll be with you in a moment. 4-5 minutes later, not a problem until we point at what we want on the menu and she says with an attitude, oh last call was 445. Like we were supposed to somehow know this. If your Happy Hour goes to 445, say 445 not 5. If you’re no longer offering something, remove the offering from the bar. When you see someone holding said offering, say, I’m sorry, we should have picked those up, with grace. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Total lack of aloha. The restaurant down the street got our $250

This has become a treasured tradition every year when we visit Kauai. This year tops all with several visits and having Roland be our server, more than once. Roland is awesome at customer service, with a genuine desire to serve his customers. This cozy bar is a must, it is the full Kauai aloha spirit. We’ll done!

Awesome vibe. Awesome staff. Daily specials made from fresh ingredients the bartender picks fresh that morning. Laurie is the bartender and she’s fantastic. Went back after our run tasting for more banter and information. Decent wine prices. Great place to just hang out for a bit and enjoy some friendly conversation and have a snack. The fried brie was insane!

Mahiko Lounge is beautiful and the drinks are perfect. The Bartender is great! She made the best Mai Tai I have ever had! It’s a perfect stop after the Plantation train ride or the Rum Tasting.

Bartender was awesome. They were short staffed and he did a great job of both tending and waiting. Drinks were strong, food was tasty, and everyone was very friendly. We did a train ride around the property which our toddler got a kick out of (they feed the chickens as you go so the chickens follow the train for a bit, and they stop to let you feed the pigs). The lounge itself was very chill, we were kind of disappointed to miss the restaurant during their serving hours but based on our good time at the bar we'll probably make a point of trying the restaurant in the future!

Lori is by far the best bartender on the island, she not only made us the best drinks, but she's real, honest, and committed to making an explosive hawaiian infused drinking experience for everyone. Her knowledge and skill are remarkable... my only regret is not finding her manager to let them know how fortunate they are to have her. I'll definitely be coming back! She's here Monday 9-5. Herbs are fresh, sugar cane pressed every morning, and rum from Koloa next door.
