Tropical Bites and Garden Isle Spirits

Located just minutes from the Lihue airport, Lilikoi Bar and Grill serves as a quintessential stop for travelers looking to transition into island time. The space captures a laid-back, open-air feeling that defines the east side of Kauai. You will find yourself surrounded by the hum of locals catching up and tourists mapping out their North Shore excursions, all set against a backdrop of clinking glasses and the faint scent of sizzling island-style pupus.

The Flavors of Lihue

The kitchen leans into comfort food with a local twist. Their signature approach centers on fresh, approachable plates that pair perfectly with a cold draft beer after a long flight. You’ll notice the menu features staple Hawaiian comfort foods—expect generous portions that cater to hungry hikers or families seeking a fuss-free dinner. The interior is unpretentious, prioritizing high-top seating and a bustling bar area that keeps the energy high.

A Local Observation

While the atmosphere is welcoming, be prepared for the pace of the island. During peak evening hours, the volume can climb as the room fills up, making it a better spot for lively social groups than intimate whispers. It is a genuine slice of daily life in Lihue, where the staff moves with a casual rhythm. If you are exploring the commercial hub of the island and want a place that feels like a neighborhood hangout rather than a tourist trap, this grill delivers the authentic, grounded experience you expect from Kauai.

We are visiting from the Rio Grande Valley and went twice for breakfast. The omelettes were delicious, especially the shrimp option. Coffee was good and loved the lilikoi cheesecake. Waiter, Juan, was friendly and gave us advice on beaches and attractions in the area.

We ate dinner the 1st night of our trip, because we have eaten before with good food and service. The staff is very good, friendly and work together to take care everyone. Lilikoi became breakfast place the restof the week. The pull pork Benedict is very good. The meals are good size in filling you up for the day. The pastries are made there. I got the lemon tart. It was delicious! You know and place is good when the locals eat there. My wife and I ate here on getaway day knowing we didn't have to stress about rushing to the airport. We will be back when we return to the area.

Came in for a quick lunch after landing at the airport, couldn't ask for a better lunch meal. I had their house named burger, It was very good and cooked properly. Rest of my party had a burger, a club sandwich and a salad and everybody enjoyed everything. All the food was fresh and well prepared. Service was attentive Been back twice for lunch/ breakfast since my original post. Everything has been good every time. Had the avocado toast the first time and this time the sunrise heat omelette. I couldn't tell you which was better. Both were great. This restaurant won't disappoint.

This was the third or fourth time here and we've been really pleased every year we come. We always seem to sit at the bar. We've had the fish tacos and Cuban sandwich in the past so we can recommend those. The pipikaula tacos are also very popular and good. This time we split the curry cauliflower salad and the coconut shrimp. Both incredibly tasty. The lilikoi dressing is amazing. Skip the thai chili sauce for the shrimp and just get a little soy. So good and super tasty coleslaw slaw. Highly recommend both these dishes as well since everything is fresh, house made and not frozen!

Rain-Chased and Well-Fed at Lilikoi Bar & Grill After spending the day being aggressively pursued by rain clouds up and down the coast of Kauai, we waved the white flag and called for a late dinner close to the condo. Enter Lilikoi Bar & Grill, a place brave enough to host one committed meat eater and three dedicated vegetarians at the same table. A bold move. A successful one. The open-air dining room was breezy, relaxed, and exactly what you want after a day of damp flip-flops and soggy plans. The restaurant manager, who appeared to be heroically covering for a server who called off, was an absolute delight. Friendly, welcoming, and clearly unshaken by the chaos of real life, he kicked things off with a Mai Tai and a guava margarita. The Mai Tai deserves its own paragraph, maybe its own postcard home. Easily one of the best I’ve had, and I’ve done the research. This being my first non-Chinese or Thai meal on Kauai, I went full island classic with the Loco Moco. I’ve had a few over the years, but this one stood out as especially satisfying. Comfort food with purpose. Fork-heavy, nap-adjacent, and exactly what I needed. The vegetarians were equally impressed. One went for the nachos, which arrived generous, glorious, and gone far too quickly. Another chose the tropical Waldorf salad and declared it “yummy,” which is high praise in vegetarian terms. The youngest veggie opted for the house-made veggie burger and announced that it exceeded expectations, which I believe is the culinary equivalent of a standing ovation. So if you find yourself near Kalapakī Beach, rain-weary, hungry, and traveling with a mixed-diet entourage, give Lilikoi Bar & Grill a try. It won’t disappoint, and you might even forget the rain was chasing you all day. 🌴🍹
