Kauai Sweet Shoppe
About
A Sugary Slice of Lihue
Walking into Kauai Sweet Shoppe feels like stepping away from the tropical humidity and into a cool, sugar-spun sanctuary. This spot is the go-to destination for locals and travelers roaming the Lihue area who need a quick afternoon pick-up. You’ll hear the hum of the cooling units and the faint chime of the door as people drift in, craving something cold and sweet to combat the Hawaiian sun.
Island-Inspired Confections
The shop excels at balancing classic American confectionery standards with distinct island flair. Their inventory often leans into house-made truffles and locally sourced ingredients that celebrate the flavors of the Garden Isle. The scent of melted chocolate and toasted macadamia nuts is thick in the air, creating an immediate sensory pull the moment you pass the threshold.
Planning Your Visit
The space is intentionally compact, which means that during the mid-afternoon rush, it can feel quite snug. It’s an ideal stop for solo snackers or couples wandering through central Lihue looking for a treat to carry while strolling nearby shops. If you arrive during peak transit times, be prepared to maneuver through a bit of a crowd, but the rotating selection of seasonal sweets makes the slight wait worthwhile. Whether you are hunting for a specific gift or just a personal indulgence, the staff is quick to guide you toward their current house favorites without the fuss of a formal dessert bar.

I tried their Hawaiian sea salt caramels, and as someone who always hunts for caramels while traveling, these completely exceeded my expectations. 🤭 The texture and flavor are honestly exceptional. I’m almost afraid to finish the bag I brought home 😅 I even tried to go back before our flight, but they were closed on Sundays. At this point I’m seriously considering ordering more online because I already know I’m going to miss them!

The caramels are fantastic but the service was subpar. We walked into the shop and were met with dead silence from the person working the shop. Outside a sign says you can sample locally made candies however inside there are no signs about samples and as we were talking about the caramels and which sounded good not once did the shop keeper offer us anything to try. I would have asked about a sample but it felt awkward and it wasn't until we walked out, I confirmed that the writing was on the sign and it wasn't in my head. We almost didn't buy anything at all and only did because we had heard how good the caramels were. I get we all need jobs and customer service jobs suck but having worked them myself it doesn't take much to do the bare minimum.

From the outside it looks like a nice little home-style sweet shop. It’s quite small inside with a lonely attendant selling a very small selection of caramels. The sweets are delicious though. Don’t go with much expectation but grab a tasty bag of caramels. Free samples.

Yummy caramels with some having island flavors like pineapple and guava. We got sea salt and guava and they are so yummy. The shop is so cute. Plenty of free parking in a parking lot. However, there is no ramp for wheelchair accessibility. Free samples are given for any of their caramel flavors. Located in the Kilohana Plantation.

I love that day preserved the old plantation & made a lot of little shops in the different outbuildings. The main building is the Gaylord's restaurant. As soon as you get off the main road, you feel like you Step the 100 years back, if not more, Into real Plantation in the middle of a jungle.
