Hualani's
About
Oceanfront Flavors at the Garden Isle
Perched overlooking the expansive Pacific near the coast of Lihue, Hualani's serves as a centerpiece for refined island dining. The dining room offers an airy, open-air design that invites the sound of crashing waves to mingle with the clinking of silverware, creating an atmosphere that feels both upscale and deeply connected to the Kauai shoreline.
A Menu Rooted in Kauai Soil
The culinary approach here prioritizes local sourcing, with many ingredients pulled directly from the island’s fertile volcanic soil. You will notice the menu leans heavily into fresh, seasonal preparations that highlight Pacific Rim influences. The signature seared catch of the day is a staple for a reason—the fish is often sourced from local fishermen just hours before hitting the pan. The flavors are bright and clean, bolstered by garden-grown herbs and locally harvested tropical fruits.
The Lihue Dining Experience
This is an ideal spot for those looking for a relaxed yet polished dinner after a long day of exploring the North Shore or the nearby Wailua River. While the floor-to-ceiling views are undeniably the main draw, guests should be prepared for the occasional brisk salt spray if the wind picks up during dinner. The service moves with a deliberate, calm pace typical of the island, encouraging diners to slow down and finish that last glass of wine while the sky shifts through shades of bruised purple and orange.
Parking is straightforward within the resort complex, though it requires a short, scenic walk through the landscaped grounds to reach the entrance. Whether you are celebrating a milestone or simply seeking a sophisticated meal that avoids the tourist traps, Hualani’s provides an authentic window into modern Hawaiian hospitality.

The food was incredible, the views were perfect, and the entire experience felt so special. Tina, our waitress, was absolutely wonderful and made the night even better. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and they surprised us with a complimentary dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch. Truly a memorable experience.

Overall, we had a good experience at Hualani’s. The service was generally professional, and everything felt well organized and at a good level. We tried the French Onion Soup and Crispy Octopus. Both were fine, but nothing especially memorable. The Misoyaki Seabass, however, was excellent and honestly a pleasant surprise - very flavorful, tender, and well prepared. We also ordered the Captain’s Combo, which was an interesting combination of two different fish preparations. I think it is a good choice if you are not sure which fish dish you want to try, because it gives you a nice variety on one plate. The only downside was that one of the servers spent about 15 minutes talking very loudly with the table next to us about nothing important. It was distracting and felt inappropriate for the atmosphere of the restaurant. Also, this restaurant seems to be promoted as a place with a view, but in reality the view was not very impressive from where we were seated. Overall, the food and service were good, and I would give it 4 stars. It is a nice restaurant, but there is still room for improvement.

Came here for my wife's birthday. Everything was amazing! The views cannot be beat on this island. The food was to die for. The staff were so attentive and courteous. Cannot wait to come back. We have visited all the islands multiple times and this was the best meal we have had out of all of them.

Five stars for Hualani’s and not the polite checkbox kind of five stars. The kind that come with a full stomach, a raised glass, and the quiet realization that you just had one of those nights you will be talking about for years. We did not make it easy on them. Plans changed, reservations shifted, and at one point we fully canceled. Lesser places would have treated that like a small betrayal. Not here. They handled everything with grace, flexibility, and the kind of hospitality that feels human, not scripted. When we arrived the following night to celebrate our anniversary with friends, they welcomed us like we had been expected all along. This is Michelin star level cooking. Every plate that arrives at the table feels intentional, refined, and deeply considered. Precision without ego. Flavors that are balanced yet still surprising. No gimmicks and no shortcuts, just serious cooking done right. Steve delivered service that stands out. Upscale, knowledgeable, and truly professional. He knew exactly when to guide and when to step back, elevating the experience without ever making it about himself. The atmosphere is the most romantic on the island. You feel it the moment you sit down. The setting, the light, the flow of the evening all come together in a way that feels effortless and genuine. At the end of dinner they surprised us with a beautiful anniversary dessert. Thoughtful, well timed, and the perfect finish to a memorable night. This is what dining should be. Not just a meal but a moment.

Favorite food on the island. Service was lovely. Tristan was so kind and thoughtful. We started with the kale salad, lobster tempura, and coconut shrimp and they were so so good. For the main course my wife got the kalbi lamb chops and I got the rib eye and we both loved and enjoyed our meals. Will be back before we leave!

Surprise! A great restaurant despite being in a time shares compound. I usually don’t think of restaurants that are part of a hotel and outstanding so I was quite surprised. The location is beautiful with a look out over the ocean and infinity pools. The service was prompt and friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions. These days I find it hard to say the meal was worth the price but true here. Yes it’s expensive. Yes it’s delicious! Dinner was 3 entrees and the scallop appetizer. Filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare and so tender. The marinated seabass was delicate and flavorful. The captains combo offered unique flavors to ahi and unaga. The portions were filling. In fact we didn’t have room for desert.

Hualani’s is a beautiful cliffside restaurant overlooking the ocean. It is the main restaurant of Timbers Kauai resort and one of our favorite places on the island to enjoy a nice romantic dinner. Service here is always friendly and the views are hard to beat. I’d recommend going for an earlier dinner so you can catch the view as the sun is setting. The food is nothing spectacular but it is good and when paired with the views, live entertainment, friendly service, and awesome drinks, it does create a very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. While we do enjoy the food here I think we really continue to come back for the combination of all its elements. One downside I will note is that the restaurant is near the airport so you may see planes take off and land from time to time. It can be a little loud sometimes but it’s never been really frequent while we were there and not bad enough to ruin our experience. If it’s something that you think may be enough to spoil your evening then you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, I think this place is worth a try. We will definitely be back again. Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Value: 3/5 Total: 4.25/5 Price: $$$ (Higher price on this visit as we had a group of 5 and 2 of us ordered the wagyu ribeye cap special which were $150 each. Might be worth it depending on price and other factors. 3/5: Solid option. Middle of the road. 4/5: Above average and excels in this area. 5/5: Excellent, needs no improvement Pricing Criteria: $: $0 - $50 per person $$: $50 - $100 per person $$$: $100 - $200 per person $$$$: $200 - $500 per person $$$$$: $500+ per person *Please keep in mind that the reviews posted here are based on personal experience which may differ from person to person based upon a multitude of factors (individual/specific workers, time of day, personal preferences, etc). Pricing may also differ and is reflected here based on what we paid for our meal. We usually enjoy multiple courses with our meals including appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts, and sometimes drinks or tasting menus when available. Service staff was very helpful. We came for an early dinner and was able to get outdoor seating with a view. The lamb chop had a korean flavor with jun as the starch. There could have been a korean pickled vegetable instead of the traditional pickled ginger. The dry aged rib eye was cooked as requested with good flavor consistent with dry aging. Tiramisu could have more rum. I.e. soaking the cake with rum like bucca de beppo. Sorry i like the rum flavor.
