Airport Convenience in the Heart of Kauai

Navigating Lihue Airport can be a rush, but the HMS Host location situated within the main terminal atrium offers a practical pit stop for travelers heading out of the Garden Isle. Whether you have an early morning departure or a midday layover, this spot provides standard grab-and-go options that keep you moving toward your gate without the stress of formal dining.

A Functional Pit Stop for Travelers

The atmosphere here is purely transit-oriented—expect the constant hum of rolling suitcases, overhead flight announcements, and the bustling energy of tourists finishing their Hawaiian vacation. It is best suited for those needing a quick caffeine fix or a familiar snack before navigating security. The seating area is functional, allowing for a brief respite to check your flight status or organize your carry-on.

The Reality of Terminal Dining

While the service is geared toward efficiency, keep in mind that airport terminal logistics can lead to occasional lines during peak departure windows. It is an ideal utilitarian choice for families or solo travelers who prioritize proximity to their gate over a long, leisurely meal. You will find standard menu staples, including bottled beverages, light pastries, and sandwiches that hit the spot when you are pressed for time. While you won't find traditional Hawaiian fine dining here, the accessibility at this central Lihue aviation hub is exactly what you need when you are watching the clock for your flight home.

Both staff members I interacted with were unfriendly and rude. I ordered a caprese sandwich. When I first received my order I thought they had mixed it up with someone else's burger, but no, they had just given me a hot "caprese sandwich" in a hamburger bun. It tasted honestly horrible and the fact that it was hot for some reason didn't help.

Teriyaki chicken teriyaki beef were extremely dry as though it were cooked hours in advance. The cheese burger for which you charge $23.99 is on par with a $1 McDonalds burger and should cause your business to be shut down. Disgusting !!!!!

Bad all around. Waitress had a bad attitude, veggie sandwich was laughably bland and WAY overpriced (something I would make if I didn't have anything to eat and threw a few veggies on sandwich bread), lukewarm fries, and gave me the wrong beer and overcharged me for it. $27 for something that was a $5 beer and a $2 sandwich.

Kauai fried rice was good, not really any other food. The cashier was great! Seems like a morning person. The dining area is air conditioned, which is nice. I like the ceiling art.

One of the worst restaurants I’ve been too at any airport. The guy taking orders had an attitude, no eye contact, mumbled answers and told us we don’t have that item for the first three choices. Then we settled on something they had and we waited, and waited, and waited. The place was not crowded and we saw at least 8 staff members, most of which were just standing around. We finally got our order, a simple breakfast but they left the coffee out. Got another attitude over that. The breakfast was ok but the coffee not so much. It’s clear this place is poorly managed and staffed by some people that don’t want to be there. Not that there are any other choices though. Just be prepared

Plate lunch was a GREAT deal (~$16-19 for 1 scoop rice, 1 scoop mac salad, and protein of choice - pictured: chicken teriyaki) and tasty too. They also sell burgers and fries, soda, etc. Ambiance is fine, it is at an airport and feels a bit like a food court even though it has its own area/restaurant space.

Oddly, I see mostly bad reviews. Must vary greatly as to who cooks. For our visit on June 13th around 910pm, the grilled shrimp was VERY good (as in better than any shrimp we had on Kauai). The loco moco was also on point. Prices were 25% higher than most of the local places, but considering how many places we ate at that were 2/5, I'm glad we had our last hot meal at the HMS Post. Hopefully consistency can increase so others can enjoy what we did.

Ok, I'll just share with you what I sent to my friends from the airport: "Just had the worst ramen of my life. Figured I should tell you. Lihue airport. They put like deli sliced ham into it. And the broth just tasted like foot water. And noodles like flavorless rubber." and then the following morning: "Oh man. That ramen sent me. Incredible stomach cramps Should have known. This ramen was setting me up. It was a setup." Reasons to not just leave one star? Well - service was great, alcohol is cheap enough and you can just buy it in a can, no need for bartenders, plenty of available tables, and really, the only non crowded non packed place at the airport.

They were out of one of the items from the classic breakfast but they were still happy to sell it to us at full price. The portions were well sized and the food was generally good for “airport food”. Stand close to the counter to hear your order called out or it will sit on the counter.

Pros: Bar is 21 and over. Food came out fast. Cons: Prices are crazy. Paid $16.99 (before tax) for a chicken sandwich that tasted like something my mom made from a frozen patty. Nachos had most tomato sauce tasting salsa ontop of frozen kalua pork. Not much better than any bad airport restaurant. Service: Lacking but not worst.
