Hamura Saimin Stand

Hearty, comforting, delicious. A simple menu with complex flavors. We tried the lumpia, shrimp tempura, beef and chicken skewers, the saimin special, and to finish off, a slice of lilikoi chiffon cake. Cash only. Excellent and attentive service. Communal style tables.

We ordered 3 dishes Won Ton Mein, Shrimp Saimin, and a Special Saimin Medium (not pictured). The won tons are a bit under cooked where the dough is crimped together. All 3 dished were delicious. We will definitely visit again soon.

tried the sumo saimin (shared w 2 others), the deep fried wontons, and the lilikoi pie (not pictured). the saimin was fine, it was interesting trying the local dish since the wontons have a different filling, but it was just ok! deep fried wontons were fine too (better deep fried than steamed). lilikoi pie was the best, it's like a meringue pie, would definitely try that again!

We absolutely loved our lunch at Hamura Saimin! Our family of five ordered the small regular saimin, beef skewers, shrimp tempura, and crispy wontons, and it ended up being the perfect amount for lunch while still leaving room to snack later while sightseeing around Kauai. Everything was fabulous comforting, flavorful, and exactly the kind of authentic local food experience we were hoping for. We also grabbed some homemade banana bread made by Lori to share in the car afterward, and it was SO good. Moist, flavorful, and perfect for a scenic drive snack. The atmosphere is casual and local, which made the experience feel even more authentic. Definitely a must-visit spot in Kauai!

After perusing multiple social media pages this establishment comes highly recommended but to be frank, the food was bad overall. If you live/have lived in a big city like LA or NY, if you’ve ever traveled to Asia, if you’ve ever had a legitimate bowl of ramen/wonton noodles, prepare to be disappointed. We ordered the “Special Saimin” since it came with the most toppings. The noodles were overcooked and soggy. The wontons had thick doughy skin and were also overcooked and ruptured with the gritty ground pork filling spilling out. The roast pork tasted old as if it’d been in the fridge for weeks or frozen/defrosted multiple times. Honestly, the only part I enjoyed were the boiled vegetables and I was not able to finish my food. To summarize, I would not recommend this place. If you must try it for your own curiosity, I’d recommend the regular saimin. Definitely a local fave with lots of native Hawaiians but not sure if that’s because food options are limited on the island. This may be my worst meal of the entire trip.

Hamura Saimin left me with mixed feelings. The Special Saimin (X-large) is a generous portion with plenty of toppings, but the bulion felt a bit bland and needed extra seasoning. The udon was disappointing – relatively small and lacking in toppings. Fried shrimp tempura was tasty, while the BBQ beef stick turned out quite greasy. On the plus side, the place has a unique, old-school atmosphere. Keep in mind it’s cash only. For one time experience it was okay, but probably never back again.

Such a great find. The food is authentic, delicious, and made with care. It’s not a busy tourist spot, which makes it even better. Feels like one of those places you’re lucky to discover.

If you are into local places that have been serving the community for a long time, you’ll enjoy this place immensely. The food was not something we were used to but it was good. Loved the ambiance. And everyone was so easy and friendly. Enjoyed a great dinner the first night on the island.

Quick with a local feel. Came here decades ago and it hasn't really changed. Got the standard saimen noodle with ham and also a Special Saimen. We both enjoyed them. I loved the fish cakes so others gave me their's. Also got a BBQ beef skewer. Pretty good but their specialty is definitely the noodle soup.

Must try local! What a wonderful homey place, incredibly flavorful noodles. We had the “Special Saimin” and the”Oxtail Saimin”the Special had a good mix of add ons and the Oxtail had an amazing broth. The bbq beef was jerky-ish but filled with flavor. Cash only tho!
