Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice (61 S Kihei Rd 61 South Kihei Road)
About
A South Maui Tradition
When the tropical sun hits its peak in Kihei, the line forming along South Kihei Road tells you everything you need to know. Ululani’s has turned the simple concept of shaved ice into a precise culinary craft. Unlike the gritty, syrup-soaked snow cones of the mainland, the ice here is shaved into a texture so fine it mimics freshly fallen powder. It melts instantly on the tongue, serving as the perfect vessel for their house-made syrups.
Flavors That Capture the Island
The menu highlights local ingredients, with signature combinations like the 'Haleakala'—a sunrise-colored blend of coconut, mango, and guava. What sets them apart is the attention to detail: the ability to add a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom and a dusting of li hing mui powder on top. You will hear the distinct hum of professional-grade ice shavers working in rhythmic succession, a sound as synonymous with Maui summers as the crashing waves nearby.
What to Expect on Your Visit
Whether you are coming off a morning surf session at Cove Park or heading back from a beach day, be prepared for a bit of a wait; the popularity of this spot means a queue is part of the experience. It is a casual, grab-and-go affair, so don't plan on lingering at a table—most visitors prefer to walk a few steps toward the coastline to enjoy their treat before the heat makes the syrup puddle. If you are a fan of authentic island flavors like lilikoi or pickled mango, this is the definitive stop in Kihei for a refreshing local staple.

This place has the best shaved ice, it's super soft and "creamy". So many flavors and options available. You can add Roselani ice cream, different toppings or azuki beans along with the shaved ice. The line looked long when we got there, about 30 people ahead of us, but it moved quickly. Only took about 20 mins to place our order and another 5 to receive it. Definitely worth the drive out.

Dangit it lived up to the hype. I wanted to try it once and be like “overrated” but unfortunately it’s everything it’s talked to be. Ordering is laid out simply on the big board - however it’s still overwhelming. I feel like I created the perfect order. Sugar free Guava, sugar free Pineapple, sugar free Strawberry on Haupia (coconut) ice cream. The snow cap is unnecessary if you order ice cream under it. The sugar free flavors didn’t taste sugar free, they tasted real and had the perfect amount of tart to them. The first time I got the local motion (li hing mui, mango and pineapple - which was delicious but I wanted to peel back the sweet and the hing mui li was a kinda salty flavor. Then tried the Haleakala. It’s very light and so delicious. Ended with my Sugar free combo over coconut ice cream and I was so pleased with my final order and got it every time after. If you like ordering mango sticky rice after a sushi meal - you must order the cup. Everyone in our group enjoyed it thoroughly

I have been craving Hawaiian shave ice since I went to Oahu 3 years ago. This was way better , by far!! Customer service was amazing, quality was great and came out quick. Snow capped and Mac nut ice cream is the way to go! Delicious !

I can see why this place is recommended! We went at 3pm and waited nearly 40 minutes but the shaved ice was delicious. You can definitely taste the texture difference between here and another spot as it was so smooth and light.

Haven’t been early in the morning but 1-2pm on a weekday and it was packed. Waited maybe 30 mins to order. But the cola flavor was amazing. Not many shaved ice places have this flavor. And it’s basically like the Buc-ee’s slushi in shaved ice form All the other flavors were as expected and also tasted good

Ululani’s is my absolute favorite shaved ice spot! I make it a point to visit a location no matter which island I’m on. My go-to flavors are calamansi, guava, and passion fruit, so refreshing and delicious! This location gets really busy, and we waited over 30 minutes for our dessert, but it’s always worth the wait.

If you do one “dessert stop” in Maui, make it shave ice, and for us this one lived up to the hype. The ice is unbelievably fine, the flavors taste bright instead of syrupy, and it’s the kind of treat that instantly resets your whole day when it’s hot out. We would come back again and again. We featured it in our YouTube video, search for “Replicate the Magic” on YouTube to find it. For a Disneyland & Disney World inspired snack, get the Dragon Fruit, Pineapple, and Watermelon for a Galaxy's Edge/Batuu inspired Blue Milk flavor (with coconut ice cream and snow cap for added flavor).

The Ululani location in Kihei truly impressed us. With so many options, the staff's helpful suggestions made all the difference. They recommended the passion guava mango orange shaved ice with coconut ice cream, and it was absolutely delicious! The service and shaved ice were top-notch, and I highly recommend Ululani to anyone.

Ululani is a big name in shaved ice and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve had shaved ice at other spots but I found the taste to be better here than anywhere else. They take pride in coverage of ice with syrup and offer to refill if they miss a spot. There was a long line on new year’s day and we got just in time. It took almost an hour before we reached the window. We got lava flow with roselina macadamia nut ice-cream and dragon fruit /guava/passionfruit with vanilla ice-cream. The syrup was really tasty and they got the full ice covered. The ice was noticeably shaved finer than anywhere else. I have commend on the quality of the icecream too - it was rich, creamy and smooth. It was a delight to come here and spend our evening.

Popular shaved ice spot with multiple locations. Came here for an afternoon sweet treat and ordered the Local Motion with the snow cap and macadamia nut ice cream. The Ulu size was good for two and we really enjoyed the mixture of the condensed milk with the shaved snow. You pay and order first before receiving your order. They have a free parking lot. Be careful with the birds because they are aggressive in trying to steal a bite of your dessert.
