The Hawaii Fudge Company
About
A Slice of Sweetness in South Maui
Stepping into The Hawaii Fudge Company is like catching the scent of pure, caramelized sugar drifting through the Kihei breeze. Tucked away within the vibrant shopping hubs of South Maui, this spot ditches the pretension of fancy dessert bars in favor of old-fashioned, small-batch craftsmanship. The shop is a favorite stop for locals refueling after a morning at Kamaole Beach, offering a reprieve from the tropical heat with its air-conditioned, sugar-dusted counters.
The Art of the Melt
Everything here centers on the alchemy of cream, butter, and patience. The menu goes well beyond traditional chocolate, showcasing creative infusions that highlight regional ingredients. You’ll find slabs of fudge that strike a perfect balance—firm enough to hold its shape, yet yielding instantly to the warmth of your mouth. The signature macadamia nut varieties are essential; the crunch of locally sourced nuts provides a necessary texture contrast to the velvet-smooth base. You might even catch the sweet, toasted aroma of a fresh batch cooling on the marble slab if you arrive mid-morning.
A Local Secret Worth the Wait
While the footprint is compact, the selection is expansive. Be prepared for a slight bottleneck near the display cases during peak vacation hours, as visitors often struggle to choose between the Kona coffee-infused squares or the classic salted caramel. It’s an informal, friendly space where you can grab a box to-go before heading toward the coastline for a sunset picnic. If you’re looking to bring a piece of Kihei home, their gift packaging is sturdier than it looks, surviving long flights remarkably well. It isn't just about grabbing a snack; it's about experiencing the slower, sweeter side of Maui island life.

One of the best pokes I had in Maui. The fish taco was also commendable. They had live music the night we were there, which rendered the atmosphere very special.

Great location, really good food. Usually a line and a bit of a wait to order (ie it's popular spot). Items will sell out, had to come back next day for Smoked Marlin Dip. Limited seating options. Dude running the order window is chatty and entertaining.

Absolutely delicious poke bowl. I got the half spicy half traditional. This is the Best I’ve had in Maui, so fresh! I’m a flight attendant and come to Maui every few months, I can’t wait to come back.

Super fresh, flavorful and huge portions. Incredibly friendly staff as as well. Can't recommend this place enough. We spent 8 days on the island and this was by far the best lunch. Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl!

The Best! Fantastic fresh locally-caught fish. I had their poke bowl, and my wife got the fish tacos. The poke was great and an ample portion. My wife's fish tacos were literally seared Ahi steaks with a tortilla wrapper that was merely symbolic compared to the large Ahi portions that could never come close to fitting in the tortillas.

Absolute best poke of my life. Unbelievably fresh. The traditional ponzu flavor was insane, spicy was not as good but still really tasty. Rice and slaw made it an 11/10 meal. Unfortunately have to knock down a star for the tacos. The fish itself was really good, and I get the hype for it being such a huge slab of high quality fish in a taco; never seen anything like it. But, proportion of fish to everything else is just not ideal. Would be way better if they cut the fish in half and served 4 tacos imo.

Hands down the best food we had in Maui. Not even close. From the moment we walked up, the vibe was everything you want in Hawaii — relaxed, welcoming, and genuinely local. The team treats you like family, takes the time to explain the catch of the day, and you can tell they truly care about what they’re serving. • Fresh, local fish • Generous portions • Very fair prices for Maui • Friendly, authentic people • Laid-back island atmosphere You can spend more elsewhere on the island and not come close to this quality. If you’re in Kihei and don’t stop here, you’re missing out. This is the kind of place you plan your day around going back to. South Maui Fish Company isn’t just a meal — it’s the Maui experience done right. 🌊🐟🔥

If you like sauce this place goes heavy or sauce. The fish tacos were huge and juicy, super fresh, big flavor. The poke was good, like the shoyu more than the creamy sauced one.

Wow. If this is the only review you read DO NOT HESITATE TO COME HERE. This was the best food I had on the entire island. I am from the PNW we have great fish, this is FANTASTIC fish. Incredibly marinade, the guys are super chill. Note: parking is tight, park at Starbucks and walk across. Sometimes there’s no seating either but who cares - arrive early, be prepared to wait 5-30 minutes. It’s about $25+tip per bowl. 10/10 stars. As one note, I’d love a wasabi ish style sauce or even some wasabi on top of the traditional. The spicy didn’t have as much flavor. Truly some of the best fish I’ve ever had. Also, Mac salad would be a great addition.

Great find in the courtyard of a small plaza! We got the 1/2 and 1/2 poke and daily fish special with mac salad. The poke was so fresh and velvety. The slaw was so good with a bit of pineapple. Rice was cooked perfectly. The amount and quality of food for the price males it 5/5. Really nice guys that run the place too! I got there about 15 minutes before open and was happy to wait in the courtyard sun. Once it opened I had my food in about 10 minutes. It traveled back to Wailea well and was delish! Highly recommend!
