Tajima Ramen Maui
About
Slurping Near the Kihei Shore
When the sun dips below the horizon in South Maui, the craving for a steaming bowl of tonkotsu often leads locals to Tajima Ramen. This spot has brought a slice of Japanese culinary tradition to Kihei, focusing on a broth-first philosophy that keeps the dining room buzzing with activity.
The Broth That Defines the Bowl
The magic happens in the long-simmered pork bone broth, which coats the noodles in a rich, creamy texture that defines their signature ramen. You will catch the scent of garlic oil and charred pork belly the moment you walk through the door. While the traditional tonkotsu is the go-to, the spicy miso option packs enough heat to balance the humidity of a Maui evening.
Atmosphere and Local Flavor
The space is minimalist and functional, designed for quick, satisfying meals rather than long, drawn-out affairs. Expect a casual, high-energy environment where the clinking of spoons against ceramic bowls creates a constant rhythm. It is a favorite for those coming off the beach who want a hearty meal that doesn’t require a reservation or formal attire.
A small tip for newcomers: the parking lot can get tight during peak dinner hours, as the surrounding Kihei commercial plazas attract a crowd. Grab your spot, head inside, and enjoy the authentic, savory steam rising from your bowl—it is the ultimate comfort food experience in the heart of the island.

This is my fourth time here, and today’s experience was very disappointing. The waitress did not bring water at the beginning, even though all the other guests had it on their tables. She took my order rather rudely, and only two minutes later she brought the soup, while other guests seemed to be waiting much longer for their meals. When she served it, she placed it on the table abruptly and walked away quickly, which gave the impression that she was irritated. It honestly made me feel uncomfortable about the situation. If I hadn’t been very hungry, I would have left. The service felt quite unfriendly, and I believe the staff could benefit from additional training. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Located in Kihei at the Kukui Mall. I had the Garlic Noodles, Fried Chicken Wings, and a Chicken Katsu Bao. All were really good. Service was phenomenal. They have a well stocked bar with a variety of beer on tap. Highly recommend for Ramen or other dish they serve

Just tried this brand-new ramen spot and loved it! 🌱 The vegetarian ramen bowl and fried rice were packed with flavor—rich broth, fresh veggies, and spot-on seasoning. Huge portions that left me happily full, super affordable, and everything tasted clean and delicious. The place is bright, clean, and welcoming—perfect for vegetarians looking for hearty options. Friendly service too.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | A Flavor Explosion in Maui! If you are looking for an incredible meal, Tajima Ramen is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the experience is top-tier. The Food • Carnitas Ramen: This is a total game-changer. The carnitas are tender, juicy, and packed with a deep, savory richness that elevates the entire bowl. It is easily one of the most flavorful fusion dishes I’ve ever had. • Traditional White Ramen: For those who love the classics, the white ramen is perfection. The broth is creamy, soul-warming, and balanced exactly as a traditional tonkotsu-style base should be. • Teriyaki Chicken & White Rice: Even the simpler dishes shine here. The teriyaki chicken is perfectly glazed and tender, paired with fluffy, pristine white rice that acts as the perfect canvas for the savory sauce. The Service Beyond the kitchen, the service is amazing. The staff is attentive, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the food they serve. They make you feel right at home the second you sit down.

We came on a rainy day for some hot soup and we were not disappointed. The ramen came quickly with good toppings. We ordered the garlic ramen, I found that the burnt garlic taste overpowered the ramen broth so I was not able to get a good taste of the broth. The lunch special was a great deal, the gyozas and kaarage were very delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly. Decoration inside was unique and fun. I would definitely come back to try another ramen

Food was pretty good, I thought the carnitas ramen was creative + executed really well. The service was kind of weird — they were out of like five something discrete menu items, brought us coldish tea, kind of shrugged and said "you get what you get" when our ramen came before appetizers.

Tajima Ramen was a solid experience! The chicken karaage was okay I expected it to be a little more crunchy and juicy, but it was still decent. I really liked the black garlic ramen, super flavorful and comforting. My boyfriend ordered the spicy sesame ramen; it had a little kick to it, but he still ate it all! The service was good too, and there was no wait, which was a plus. Overall, a nice spot to grab ramen.

I’ve been here twice already. Their ramen is bomb. Their other items are just okay. I had their white ramen and black ramen. Both were good, but I think the white ramen is better. I also had their edamame, vegetarian gyoza, chicken fried rice, and pork fried rice. And all of these were okay. If these were better, I would’ve given the restaurant five stars. The atmosphere also has a touch of coolness to it. The restaurant is decorated with anime figures at the front, and cartoons and sports are playing on TVs at the front as well. Alongside the rest of the restaurant design, overall, it gives off a cool vibe.

Overall, the experience was good. We ordered chicken karaage as an appetizer, spicy sesame ramen and chicken teriyaki bowl as entrees. The chicken karaage breading was not up to the mark for me. My wife liked the spicy sesame ramen and the chicken teriyaki bowl was good. I tried ordering the chicken fried rice without corn but they said that they can’t make changes to the rice which was a little unfortunate since I couldn’t try that! The food made me want to give a 3.5 star rating, however the service made me upgrade it to a 4 star overall rather than downgrade it to 3 star.

Tajima Ramen Maui is a must-visit! My wife and I started with the gyoza, which were perfectly crisp and flavorful. They were a great way to kick off the meal. For our main dish, we both ordered the Tajima Red Ramen, and it did not disappoint. The broth had just the right amount of spice, rich and well-balanced. I added a noodle refill because I couldn’t get enough. Honestly, this was the best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere was also fantastic with great music that added to the experience without being too loud. If you're in Maui and craving authentic, flavorful ramen, Tajima should be at the top of your list.
