Sol Brother's Southern BBQ
About
Low and Slow in South Maui
Finding authentic, wood-fired barbecue in the middle of Kihei might seem like an anomaly, but Sol Brother's Southern BBQ brings a genuine smokehouse spirit to the island. You won't find a sprawling, formal dining room here; instead, the operation focuses entirely on the integrity of the pit. The air around the stand is heavy with the scent of hickory and rendered fat, a welcome contrast to the usual tropical floral breezes found nearby.
The Meat of the Matter
Chef-driven and focused on technique, this spot centers its menu on traditional Southern staples. The brisket is the clear standout, featuring a deep mahogany bark that cracks under a knife, revealing a smoke ring that proves they respect the time-intensive process of low-temperature cooking. Their pulled pork is equally deliberate, served with a vinegar-forward sauce that cuts through the richness without masking the quality of the pork itself.
Know Before You Go
This is a quintessential casual stop perfect for post-beach refueling when you have sand on your sandals and a serious appetite. Because the operation is small and dedicated to the craft, they occasionally sell out of the popular items earlier than planned, so heading over during the lunch rush is your best bet for securing the full menu. While parking in the bustling Kihei commercial zones can occasionally be a game of patience, the reward is a plate of barbecue that feels like a trip to the mainland South without leaving the Pacific.

Had the brisket sandwich and jerk wings and the brisket was DELICIOUS and I’m from Texas so I know a good brisket. The only thing was they put way too much bbq sauce on it that it overtook the flavor of the actual meat but other than that it was very well seasoned and tender and juicy. The wings were also good, smoked but again over did it with the bbq sauce. I know some like a lot of sauce but you got to let your meat be the star. Next time I would just ask for sauce on the side and that would make everything 5 stars for me. Great food tho!

Had the brisket plate today, Mac and rice sides. I’d say I’ve had a decent amount of brisket all over the place, and sometimes it can be a let down, but not here, it was juicy and had lots of flavour. Highly recommend!

Some of the most tender and flavorful ribs I have ever eaten in my life. The chicken was also super delicious as well and the portion sizes were absolutely massive!

Had their 12 hr smoked brisket sandwhich. It was amazing! Like melt in your mouth brisket. Absolutely delicious. Service was awesome. Favorite thing about the food truck atmosphere is that you get to talk to people, joke around and have a light hearted experience with great food. 10000% recommend for top tier BBQ, generous messy (only way to eat bbq) portions, && great atmosphere. I should have gotten the names of the people who made our food and took our order... I didn't but they're very sweet && add to the light hearted laid back feel of it all.

Outstanding brisket. Mac and cheese was amazing- worth a visit for that. Beans were also excellent. Some might flinch at the price, but with the current price of worthy brisket and their portions, price is fair. Worth it if you’re a bbq fan. They use local smoke wood which adds a unique flavor. 1 plate is probably enough for 2 people in most cases.

Ate here twice during a recent visit to Maui! Highly recommend! I had the jerk chicken bowl! The first time it was everything I was craving and more! The chicken (we will call it a jerk bbq) was tender and delicious, over some creamy mac and cheese and some of the best baked beans I have ever had! The second time I was served by a different person other than the couple that said they own the food truck; this time it was an older woman, and I ordered the same thing. But to my surprise when I got home, there was no mac and cheese, instead it was chicken with rice and some baked beans! Though disappointed with that, I’m still giving it a 5 stars because have to give credit where credit is due!

We ordered 4 sandwiches: BBQ chicken, Jerk chicken, Brisket and BBQ mac-n-cheese rib, plus a large side of Mac-n-cheese and the result........just Perfect! All were bursting with flavor from the perfect combo of meat, sauces, and toppings. And to top it off, the folks that served us were awesome!
