A Casual Taste of Maui’s Coastline

Steps away from the golden sands of South Maui, Ohana Seafood Bar and Grill serves as a laid-back sanctuary for those looking to swap their sandy flip-flops for a cold drink. The atmosphere is unapologetically casual, defined by an open-air layout that lets the ocean breeze cut through the afternoon heat. You will hear the distant hum of traffic along South Kihei Road competing with the rhythmic clinking of mai tai glasses, creating that quintessential beach-town soundtrack.

Island-Inspired Bites

The kitchen leans heavily into Pacific Rim influences, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced catch. The signature blackened ahi is a standout, featuring a perfect sear that keeps the center cool and buttery. Pairing this with their coconut-crusted shrimp offers a balance of textures that defines the local palate. Whether you are splitting a pupu platter with friends or sitting at the bar for a quick lunch, the menu prioritizes uncomplicated preparation that lets the quality of the fish speak for itself.

The Kihei Experience

This spot is ideal for visitors winding down after a long day of snorkeling at nearby Kamaole Beach Parks. It thrives on a "come as you are" mentality. Be prepared for a bit of a localized buzz; the space fills up quickly during the sunset hour, and parking can be a bit of a puzzle in the shared lots along the strip. If you snag a table near the window, the golden hour light hitting the patio makes for an unbeatable backdrop. It is not about white-tablecloth pretense here; it is about salt air, cold beer, and reliable seafood served without the frills.

Stopped in to enjoy a few cocktails and live music. We were so disappointed in our experience. Our server took 10-15 minutes to take our drink order and it was another 10-15 before we actually received our drinks. Meanwhile folks around us were receiving equally terribly service with many walking out and/or not eating their food and drinks altogether because it was bad. The redeeming part was the outdoor atmosphere and live music. The mojito was too sweet and the old fashion was fine but wasn’t what we ordered. For the price of the cocktails we had higher expectations.

Mai Tai came with zero alcohol. I don’t mean it wasn’t strong, I mean it had literally no alcohol in it. Buttered Noodles served with no butter. Kalua Pork Nachos were bland but somehow the best thing on the table. Very disappointed. Also the live band sucked.

If you want amazing food, filled with friendly locals, and phenomenal music, you need to come here. Tripp Wilson, the owner, is so kind and hospitable, anyone that tells you different is the one with the bad attitude. We had the pleasure of meeting Lori as well, you may see her up singing with Tripp or busing tables on a busy Saturday night. It is right on the main strip in Kīhei and just all around a total vibe. It really turned our trip from feeling like tourists, to feeling right at home. 10000000000000000000000/10!!!

It pains me to say this because we have always eaten at Ohana’s multiple times per visit to Maui and loved it, but it has changed, and not for the better. Turns out, there are new owners as of the end(ish) of 2024 and it shows. The service was not good, which in defense of the staff, I suspect was due to the insufficient number of servers. I’m sure they’re doing their best and I get the whole island time situation, but waiting 20ish minutes just to order is not a good look. Finally ordered only to be told that they were out of multiple items we ordered. Mind you, it’s 6:30 on a Wednesday night, not late, and not a Friday or Saturday. We adapted. One meal was delivered, followed up by our server asking if everything was ok. Well, I’m missing my meal, so… The food is fine, but the vibe is not, and ultimately that’s a management issue. I’m bummed because we always recommend Ohana’s, in fact I recommended it twice at the airport for newcomers. So disappointed.

The beginning did not start well when we asked the server about Happy Hour that we saw on the entrance sign. She said "No Happy Hour is only from 5-6". When mentioned we just read it she said No and rudely repeated herself (see the lies on the entrance sign in photo). We ordered the calamari appetizer. When it came out it only had 8 superthin rings and a few tentacles, barely anything on a huge bed of lettuce. We ordered two of their bistro burgers. They asked what temp. We ordered one medium rare and one medium. Both came out well done with zero pink. The final worst part was my wife slipping on the slippiest wet steps with zero grip or signs warning how slippery. We left disappointed and injured. Update: Aloha, after reading the reply I added a star. For the most part we enjoyed our time there until the injury. But the food was overpriced, not prepared well, and small portions. One of the reasons we went was because of the brag of longest Happy Hour. Please update your sign for actual Happy Hour times. It literally states "Happy Hour 11am 6pm & 9pm to 12am". If the 9 to 12 happy hour does exist erase it off of your sign. Also acknowledge that it says that. Maybe do not ask "how you would like your burger cooked" if it will be cooked well-done anyways. That was also the smallest appetizer order of Calamari we had ever seen. I understand it does not rain often. But some grippy tape would be very beneficial. We slipped coming up the stairs and one drink later, sober, slipped leaving. Our only person of contact was our waitress that was obviously having a bad night and was not gracious or welcoming. I do not leave bad reviews often but this experience left a bad taste in our mouths. Please make an effort to provide a safe establishment no matter the weather.

What a night to remember! Wonderful, friendly service, delicious (like, seriously Yummy) food, and plenty of laughs & great entertainment courtesy of Tripp Wilson! Our party got the half plate of Huli Huli chicken & the island burger. The food was delicious, portions were more than enough, and the drinks were delicious! Mahalo for a fantastic evening - one to remember for sure!

Went to this place 2x for Happy Hour during my stay in Maui. They have a special Happy Hour Drink Menu with a small choice of beer, wine and Cocktails. Since Hawaii is an expensive place in general happy hour prices seem to be fair :-) service was good and staff was attentive. We had no food, so I cannot provide feedback here. Als very nice, the live music they have. We enjoyed this very much.

So excited to finally have a steak dinner that was affordable. Boy was i disappointed, not once but twice. First night, sat down and ordered blackened steak dinner. After about 10 minutes, the waitress returns to tell me that the steak is not quality and the cook is not happy to serve it. Bummer, but appreciate the honesty. I asked if they will have tomorrow, she said yes. Return second evening, but asked first if they had steak available before seating. She went and talked to the cook, only to return to tell me they are out for few days now. So not only did they not have steak in stock both evenings but then lied about the reason for not having it. I've had some great food and service on Maui, but would recommend stearing clear of Ohana' Island.

We got the island burger and salad and they were delish together! The island burger was a well cooked thick patty with teriyaki, pineapple and sweet onion. The salad was mixed baby greens, carrot, cucumber with a sweet onion dressing . It was so good and with the live music in the background, we had a very enjoyable late night beach side dinner. They also made us a blue Hawaii and a mimosa which were also well made. All in all, 5 stars all the way! Recommended!
