A Taste of Thailand in the Heart of South Maui

Stepping into Nutcharee's Authentic Thai Food, you are immediately greeted by the heady, aromatic scent of lemongrass, kaffir lime, and bubbling coconut milk. Located right in the vibrant community of Kihei, this spot has become a local staple for those craving legitimate heat and complexity in their curry. Chef Nutcharee prides herself on a menu that moves far beyond the standard takeout fare found elsewhere on the island.

Signature Spice and Culinary Craft

The standout here is undoubtedly the massaman curry, a rich, slow-cooked masterpiece featuring tender beef that practically melts, offset by the crunch of roasted peanuts and sweet potatoes. It is a harmonious balance of sweet, savory, and deep, earthy spice. If you prefer a lighter touch, the crispy fish served with a spicy, herbaceous green mango salad offers a brilliant textural contrast—the snap of the fresh mango cutting right through the savory, fried exterior of the snapper.

The South Maui Dining Experience

This is not a place for a quiet, white-tablecloth affair. Expect a lively, bustling environment where the clatter of plates and the animated chatter of residents create a high-energy backdrop. It is ideal for friends grabbing an informal dinner after a long day at the beach. Be mindful that the popularity of the kitchen means it can get quite busy during prime sunset hours, and parking in the surrounding Kihei plaza lots can occasionally be a game of musical chairs. However, one bite of the pad thai—prepared with an authentic tamarind base that provides a sharp, tangy zip absent in many Westernized versions—makes the effort entirely worth it. Whether you are a heat-seeker or looking for the perfect coconut-milk-based comfort meal, this kitchen brings a genuine slice of Thai culinary heritage to the shores of Maui.

Our waiter was on point! Food was delicious and generous portions. We choose a seasonal dessert, that didn't disappoint. Hidden gem!

We stayed in Kihei for 5 days and this was arguably the best meal we had. Everything from the service to the food quality and the pricing was perfect. We got the crispy fish/green mango salad and the seafood curry and they were both delicious! The dramatic review about the green mango salad wasn't kidding haha. If we had one more day I wouldve gone back here again.

Excellent authentic Thai! Best on the island and maybe in Hawaii. The chefs are Thai! The spice level is accurate! Order their specialty dishes that are designated on their menu! The mango sticky rice is excellent as well.

I've had massaman curry about a million times and I've cooked it a million more. And I have to admit, their braised short rib curry was decadent, flavorful, and delicious. The short rib was boneless and meaty. So so SO many restaurants will overcook their proteins. Even well known and popular places. You learn to deal with it. But not here. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The drunken noodles were very saucy and well seasoned too. Probably the best I've had. The service was very friendly and accommodating. Truly, you felt their warmth, and it made the experience richer. They have been open for a decade, and if Maui knows good Thai food, they will be open for 10 decades more!

This is one of the few places on Maui that I really enjoyed. Food is on par or better than Thai you will find in most places on Mainland. The restaurant vibe is great and they have nice paper menus. The pricing is very reasonable for the portion sizes. Also their spicy options are actually spicy so keep that in mind. One unique they had on the menu was Jungle curry which is a non coconut curry which was interesting! Overall if I had only one place to recommend in Maui this would be it!

Awesome food! Excellent service! We were there for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was pretty relaxed and we got seated quickly. We had Pad Thai and Yellow Curry. If you don't like fish or oyster sauce in your Thai food, this restaurant has marked dishes as Vegan Option. Those can be ordered without those. Very flavorful. Medium Spicy is American Medium, not Thai Medium. We asked for hot sauce and made these dishes to our liking. Large portions, excellent service, great food! Will be back again!

Amazing food and flavors, service was great with all details explained and requests accommodated where they could. Food came out very quick and portions were filling. Spice level was just right as requested and wish I lived in Maui so I could visit again. Highly recommended especially for vegetarians and anyone looking for some spice and great flavors. And the best part is you don’t need to drive all the way to Hana for this!

I found my new favorite Thai restaurant in Maui. Not sure why I’ve not tried this place before. Went here two days in a row and the food each time was great. Not sweet or salty like other places. There’s 4 different levels of spice you can get, so that was nice. But they should have a super spicy level! The wait staff is nice but the hostess could have been more personable. She wasn’t rude but a little friendlier would have been nice. I understand it can get busy but being friendly helps. There is plenty of seating here, so not sure why there is a wait. Maybe to ensure the cooks can handle the orders in a decent amount of time? Since it’s pretty spacious, we could speak freely without being too loud. So a great place to bring your date! I’m sure I’ll be coming here for Thai food more than any other place when I’m in Maui.
