A Bold Turn for South Maui Dining

Located in the heart of the Kihei coastal strip, Monsoon brings a distinctively modern approach to Indian cuisine. Stepping inside, you are greeted by the aromatic heavy lifting of toasted cumin, freshly ground turmeric, and the sweetness of simmering onion bases that define the kitchen's authentic heat. The room is sleek, trading traditional decor for a minimalist aesthetic that lets the vibrant, spice-forward plating take center stage.

Signature Spices and Local Ingredients

The menu leans into complex, slow-cooked curries and tandoor-fired specialties that highlight high-quality proteins. The Lamb Rogan Josh is a standout, featuring meat so tender it pulls apart at the slightest pressure of a fork, bathed in a rich, kashmiri-chili infused gravy. Those seeking a lighter option will appreciate the vegetable pakoras, which arrive at the table with a satisfying, audible crunch that gives way to a soft, herb-flecked interior.

The Kihei Atmosphere

This is a spot suited for those looking to break away from the standard beach-town fish taco circuit. While the dining room offers an escape from the midday Maui sun, be prepared for a lively, energetic volume level during dinner service. It is a fantastic choice for groups wanting to share a variety of small plates, though space can feel a bit intimate during peak weekend hours. Whether you are a fan of searing vindaloos or buttery, mild kormas, the kitchen demonstrates a technical mastery of spice tempering that is rare to find across the island. Just keep in mind that parking in this busy section of South Kihei can be a bit of a dance, so arriving a few minutes early is well worth the trouble to secure your spot.

I love their food and service. Masala papad is a must try. Tomato soup was pretty decent. Garlic naan and aloo mutter were good too. Staff is very quick and friendly. The best part is to have food with beach/sunset views. The views are incredible. Do try this restaurant if you are around Maui.

Not ‘just’ delicious but they offer made-to-order dishes according to your dietary needs. Spicy? Not spicy? Gluten free? Ask and they will do their best to accommodate every meal for you. Excellent service, incredible views, abundance of parking. Enjoy!!

Amazing experience! Hands-down the best sunset view in North Kīhei. Extra thanks to JUDY for her friendly and professional service! I wish they would be open more hours, but without a sign outside, this place remains the best-kept secret in north Kīhei.

Simply amazing! Starting with the spectacular ocean view, continuing with the delicious and very flavorful food. The staff was attentive without being intrusive. Overall, it’s the kind of place you leave already planning your next visit. 😍

The food here was a highlight—the butter chicken, naan bread, and rice were all delicious and full of flavor. However, the experience was mixed due to a few other factors. • Menu & Pricing: The Indian cuisine menu is somewhat limited, and be aware that entrees are à la carte, so rice is an additional charge. • Service: We visited during sunset and found the service to be quite slow. • Facilities: The bathrooms were in need of attention and could be much cleaner. • Hidden Costs: Keep a close eye on your check, as they may automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. Overall, it’s a great spot for tasty food and views, but come prepared for slow service and extra costs."

Monsoon Bar & Grill in Maui is a great spot for flavorful Indian food in a relaxed setting. We tried the dal, paneer curry, and fresh naan, and everything tasted rich and comforting with authentic spices. The dal was hearty and well-seasoned, the paneer curry had a creamy, flavorful sauce with soft paneer pieces, and the naan came out warm and perfectly soft, great for scooping up the curries. Portions were generous and the dishes felt freshly made. Overall, it’s a solid place to enjoy classic Indian comfort food while in Maui. 🍛🥘

The sunset views alone make this place worth visiting. It gets very busy around sunset, and since the windows are kept open, it can get a bit chilly—bring a light sweater or jacket depending on the weather. The food was good (and honestly great considering it’s one of the few Indian options around), but the service was very slow. Definitely order everything at once. The server was upfront about it and even mentioned that getting an extra roti or naan later would take another 30 minutes because we had under-ordered. That said, between the views and the food, it’s still absolutely worth a visit.
