Spice and Spirit in the Heart of South Maui

Tucked away in the vibrant commercial hub of Kihei, Monsoon Bar & Grill offers a refreshing departure from typical island fare. As soon as you step inside, the heavy scent of toasted cumin and slow-simmered cardamom greets you, signaling a kitchen that takes its spice profiles seriously. The dining room balances an energetic bar scene with comfortable seating, making it a reliable spot for locals grabbing a post-beach dinner or visitors craving bold flavors after a day in the sun.

The Kitchen’s Signature Heat

Under the guidance of experienced culinary hands, the menu leans heavily into North Indian traditions. The signature Lamb Rogan Josh is a standout, featuring meat so tender it pulls away with the slightest nudge of a fork, bathed in a deep, crimson gravy rich with yogurt and aromatic spices. If you prefer vegetarian options, the Saag Paneer maintains a vibrant, earthy freshness that pairs perfectly with their blistered, clay-oven-fired garlic naan.

A Local Perspective

The atmosphere is unpretentious and lively, often punctuated by the clinking of glasses and the hum of conversation against a backdrop of upbeat music. While the space is undeniably welcoming, be prepared for a spirited volume level during peak dinner hours—this is a place built for socializing rather than quiet reflection. Parking in the surrounding Kihei lots can get tight as the evening progresses, so arriving early is a pro move to ensure a smooth transition from your car to your table. Whether you are looking for a cooling mango lassi to cut through the humidity or a fiery vindaloo to test your palate, this spot brings a necessary punch of heat to South Maui's dining landscape.

I love their food and service. Masala papad is a must try. Tomato soup was pretty decent. Garlic naan and aloo mutter were good too. Staff is very quick and friendly. The best part is to have food with beach/sunset views. The views are incredible. Do try this restaurant if you are around Maui.

Not ‘just’ delicious but they offer made-to-order dishes according to your dietary needs. Spicy? Not spicy? Gluten free? Ask and they will do their best to accommodate every meal for you. Excellent service, incredible views, abundance of parking. Enjoy!!

Amazing experience! Hands-down the best sunset view in North Kīhei. Extra thanks to JUDY for her friendly and professional service! I wish they would be open more hours, but without a sign outside, this place remains the best-kept secret in north Kīhei.

Cute café with a beautiful ocean view in Kihei. The service was great, the ocean view is really nice, and they have good veggie options too. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area 🌊☕️ The beat toast my fav 🩷

The food here was a highlight—the butter chicken, naan bread, and rice were all delicious and full of flavor. However, the experience was mixed due to a few other factors. • Menu & Pricing: The Indian cuisine menu is somewhat limited, and be aware that entrees are à la carte, so rice is an additional charge. • Service: We visited during sunset and found the service to be quite slow. • Facilities: The bathrooms were in need of attention and could be much cleaner. • Hidden Costs: Keep a close eye on your check, as they may automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. Overall, it’s a great spot for tasty food and views, but come prepared for slow service and extra costs."

Monsoon Bar & Grill in Maui is a great spot for flavorful Indian food in a relaxed setting. We tried the dal, paneer curry, and fresh naan, and everything tasted rich and comforting with authentic spices. The dal was hearty and well-seasoned, the paneer curry had a creamy, flavorful sauce with soft paneer pieces, and the naan came out warm and perfectly soft, great for scooping up the curries. Portions were generous and the dishes felt freshly made. Overall, it’s a solid place to enjoy classic Indian comfort food while in Maui. 🍛🥘

The sunset views alone make this place worth visiting. It gets very busy around sunset, and since the windows are kept open, it can get a bit chilly—bring a light sweater or jacket depending on the weather. The food was good (and honestly great considering it’s one of the few Indian options around), but the service was very slow. Definitely order everything at once. The server was upfront about it and even mentioned that getting an extra roti or naan later would take another 30 minutes because we had under-ordered. That said, between the views and the food, it’s still absolutely worth a visit.
