Maui Poke
About
Island-Style Bowls by the Pacific
Stepping into Maui Poke feels like a direct invitation to the authentic flavors of the South Maui coast. Far from the polished, over-processed chains, this spot focuses on the fundamentals: razor-sharp knives, locally caught ahi, and a rhythmic consistency that keeps regulars coming back. The interior is sparse and functional, favoring a quick-turnaround flow that prioritizes the quality of the fish over elaborate decor.
The Catch of the Day
Everything here revolves around the bowl. The signature poke is characterized by generous, chunky cubes of sashimi-grade yellowfin tuna, marinated just long enough to soak up house-made shoyu and sesame oil without losing the firm texture of the fish. You will notice a heavy emphasis on crunch—think toasted kukui nut, crisp onions, and fresh limu seaweed that provides that quintessential briny snap. The portions are substantial, intended for those who just spent a morning surfing the breaks nearby.
Practical Observations for Your Visit
Because this is a neighborhood favorite within the bustling Kihei retail landscape, don't expect a quiet, meditative dining experience. The hum of the refrigeration units and the lively chatter of locals grabbing lunch to-go create a high-energy, authentic backdrop. Parking in this part of town can be a bit of a localized sport during the peak midday rush, so arriving slightly before or after the traditional lunch hour is usually a wise move. If you are looking for a no-fuss meal that tastes exactly like what a Hawaiian island lunch should be—fresh, cool, and nutrient-dense—this is your primary destination in the area.

Delicious poke. I like that they make it right in front you and that you can specify the ingredients. I kept mine simple with just ahi, onions, and cucumbers. Their signature sauce was perfect.

Yesterday evening we stopped into Maui Poke to see what all the excitement was about. To our good fortune Josh (the owner) and his mom were both there, and our quick stop quickly turned into full size “samples” and lots of laughter. The food is top notch. Everything was fresh and made to order. Josh went above and beyond. It is obvious how much he loves food and people. Unbeknownst to me he has a long history as a chef with numerous awards to his name. While those accolades are all well and good, it was Josh’s warm and welcoming personality that will have me going back to visit his new spot in Wailea. Meeting his mom, who just recently moved to Maui was an added treat. 😊 Mahalo!

Perfect DoorDash spot for the beach. Food was so good - everything tasted fresh and well proportioned. Surf & turf bowl was bomb - ahi + steak, coasted in smoky mayo. Wifey got the special bowl with salmon and it was great, too (had mango and pineapple). DoorDash makes it a little tough to order, but the associate at the shop called us to clarify, which I was super impressed by. A++++
