Local Comfort in South Maui

When you find yourself craving a hearty plate lunch in the heart of Kihei, King's BBQ stands as a no-frills institution for island-style Chinese comfort food. This is the place where local flavor takes priority over fancy presentation. The kitchen specializes in quick, heavy-hitting portions that cater to the hungry beachgoer or the local worker looking for a reliable, filling meal during a lunch break.

What to Expect on Your Plate

The menu leans heavily into Cantonese-influenced favorites tailored to the local palate. Their BBQ pork is a recurring favorite, glazed with a sweet, savory finish that pairs perfectly with a scoop of sticky rice and a side of potato-mac salad. The roast duck and char siu are staples here, often served chopped to order with a side of steamed bok choy or crisp vegetables. You can smell the roasted meat the moment you step toward the service counter, a savory scent that cuts through the tropical air.

The Kihei Dining Vibe

Expect a casual, straightforward atmosphere. The seating is utilitarian, and the service moves at a pace suited for those who know exactly what they want. It is a fantastic spot for takeout if you are heading down to the nearby coastline for a picnic. Note that parking in the shopping plaza can get tight during peak lunch hours, so arrive with a bit of patience. Whether you are a resident grabbing a quick dinner or a visitor looking to eat like a local, the focus here is strictly on getting a satisfying, authentic meal that hits the spot without the pretense of fine dining.

Went here twice. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Went the next morning and he recognized me from the night prior. Said “welcome back!” And GAVE me an Arizona green tea. If you like garlic, and you like chicken, the Garlic Chicken was AMAZING. The fried rice was good too. Overall. Was a perfect spot for a quick bite.

One of the best mixed plates I had on the island!! Me and my group all loved kings bbq during our trip to Maui. The owner kai is so great and we came back multiple times during our stay. 🌺 Our favorite bites were definitely the mixed plate with chicken katsu and the beef short ribs. Comes with Mac Salad and Rice and the Mac salad was an easy 10/10!! We also tried the spam musubi, chicken low mein, and the banana egg roll which were all so good. Location is also really great right across from the beach making it a really good option to grab to go and eat with a view 🌅 All the food we got was also really affordable which is why I easily give it a 5 ⭐️

Amazing Hawaiian bbq. The cashier is very fun and too helpful, he went beyond his duties to fulfill my order. Behind the curtain there is a master at the stove. I end up going again next day just to ask for another bbq plate. Very recommended place. Reasonable prices.

Such a great spot! The teriyaki chicken is so good—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The honey walnut shrimp was a standout too: crispy, creamy, and just the right balance of sweet and savory. The new owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. You can tell they really care about the food and the customers. Everything was fresh, portions were generous, and service was quick. We’ll definitely be back—highly recommend if you’re craving solid Chinese food with great vibes.

While it is expensive everywhere. Kings Chinese barbecue is one of the cheap eats in the area while providing decent quality of food. We got their katsu chicken plate and a double cheese burger with fries Katsu breading is too thick but it was still crunchy after a 10 mins walk back to the hotel. Burger was $12.99 and it definitely did its job. If you order on their website they usually have a 10% off discount code

Ok so my score for the food and general vibe is a 4. Tried the loco moco and the short ribs with garlic shrimp. Flavor was pretty good although the loco moco patty wasn’t top quality. Mac salad was very mayo heavy and grocery store style but the rice was perfect. So overall really good. The lady working there was obviously ill however coughing this terrible phlegmy cough and spitting in a bucket up front. Kind of made me feel ill plus it seems like a health hazard. That is like a 1 star experience. I’m giving it an overall 3 assuming it isn’t a health hazard everyday, but still I won’t be back.

Meals come out quick. I tried the saimin and there was a lot of burnt residue from the grilled chicken and egg that overpowered the soup. I tried the aloha which has an egg rather than the regular chicken. It comes with soup, noodles, egg and chicken. No dumplings. Chicken wings don’t have any sides and it includes 9 winglets or 4 whole wings. Soaked in oil and the battered ain’t crispy.
