Huli Huli Chicken and Ribs
About
A Smoke-Filled Kihei Tradition
When you turn off South Kihei Road, the scent of kiawe wood smoke acts as a beacon. Huli Huli Chicken and Ribs isn't interested in white tablecloths or complex plating; it is about the raw, charred perfection of island-style barbecue. This roadside spot thrives on the simple alchemy of heat, meat, and a sweet-savory glaze that locals have craved for years.
The Art of the Turn
The name itself describes the process—huli meaning to turn in Hawaiian. You will see the signature racks rotating over open flames, a sight that draws hungry beachgoers straight from the nearby shores of Maui. The chicken skin achieves that elusive balance of crispy edges and tender, juice-locked meat, while the ribs possess a pull-off-the-bone quality that puts fancier luaus to shame.
Casual Bites by the Beach
This is the definitive spot for a messy, hands-on lunch after a morning in the Pacific. It is loud, it is breezy, and it is unapologetically functional. The ordering process is straightforward, and while parking in the lot can be a tight squeeze during the peak midday rush, the wait is worth it for a plate lunch that defines authentic Kihei flavor. Bring your napkins, find a spot on a nearby bench, and enjoy a meal that captures the straightforward, sun-drenched spirit of South Maui. Don't expect fancy cocktails here; focus on the house-made sauces and the smoky char that keeps the line moving consistently from noon until the supply runs out.

Eating huli huli chicken was a must do for our vacation, and was 10/10. We were provided this meal as part of our Road to Hana tour. Our tour guide preordered our meal, picked it up for us and delivered it. I was amazed by the flavor and texture of the chicken. We ate at a covered picnic table at the beach (a minute away from their stand), the setting was perfect! I highly recommend!

Not your traditional Huli Huli chicken but was still very moist. Got the combo plate with the ribs and they were seasoned well. Great lite lunch with plain rice and some canned corn. Overall a good Maui Food Choice!

It wasn't busy at lunch time on a Wednesday. Service was fast and friendly. The ribs and chicken were very good. You could smell it cooking as soon as you pulled into the parking lot.
